Oil change 6 hours?

It’s not about being too hard yahoo.
I’m not explaining this again.
But time is valuable to some people.
Obviously not if you’re waiting for 6 hours.
It’s like this, doing your own laundry isn’t “too hard”. It’s just nice to have it done by someone else if you can afford it.
Same with changing engine oil, cooking, caring for small children, etc.

Can confirm.

25+ year Toyota Tech said my alternator was going out after I told them it’s the bearing on the AC compressor. Under warranty, I let them replace the alternator because why not, it’s free, and my AC compressor bearing is still howling. I’ll let them replace every bearing on the way to the AC compressor because they can’t rely on the assessment of an “amateur”.

 

Your used oil fits in a single domestic beer can?
You didn’t mention driving/ordering the filter/oil.
Properly driving/paying to dispose the oil.
You didn’t mention checking any other fluids/etc.
What about when the dog walks under the truck spills the oil everywhere. Tracks it into your trailer home. Now you’re second cousin/third wife is upset because your dusty ass dog tracked oil all over your couch/bed and knocked over her 2 dollar bottle of wine onto her last Virginia slims.
Plus you accidentally ordered the wrong oil, so now you have to take your third uncles/brother in laws tractor “into the city”
But it breaks down halfway cause you did a half ass job changing that oil too..

 

I can make the appointment, and they are pulling the truck or Rav4 in before I can get a full cup of ICEE. It helps that I ride motorcycles with the lube tech.

 

that was true... until 2016. Now it’s a canister filter with replaceable element on the bottom of the engine. So much easier on the 4.0

 

It's a bit more involved on the 3rd Gen, but still easy nonetheless.

 

Your appointment time is for you to check in and drop off your car, not what time they service your car. If you want them to work on it right away then you schedule your self as a "waiter", meaning your waiting at the dealer for it to be done.

Most lube teams are overbooked because upper management is shit. They will have 2 appointments every 30 minutes, they will stack up until second shift gets in and there is some overlap where 2 teams are working. Waiters come first, walk ins come next, and drop offs are usually last in line. walk ins are the worst because they demand you drop all other peoples work to do their cars. Its not uncommon to have your car sit on the lot till a hour before you say your going to pick it up.

I worked for VW for 6 years and spent allot of time working with the lube teams trying to get them to not do this.

I was in a dealership for an oil change once... they forgot my ticket and I ended up waiting 3 hrs. They brushed me off when I complained about it. It was too late because the last mechanic left and the service rep was locking doors.

So I took my complaints elsewhere. Yelp. Google. I had their attention then...

Next day: oil change, rotation, alignment all free.

If you don’t feel like waiting forever, and you don’t feel like DIY, come in 1 hr to 30 minutes before closing time. I assure you they will expedite your service.

 

When I went to my appointments for service I stayed and waited for the work to be completed - usually out in an hour or so. I watched the work being done too, albeit from a distance.

 

Contrary to popular belief I don't have any real complaints about the dealer. Been going there almost 9 yrs. The process of making the appointment, going through with it and all the waiting plus answering a survey each time has prompted me to do all my own work, except warranty.

 

Most people are not happy until they find something to bitch about or feel like they got something over on someone.

The typical American these days is an obese degenerate, with a short fuse, has no sense of forgiveness or personal responsibility

If you love paying "certified techs" a bunch of money to perform a ridiculously simple task only to find half your wheel studs threads are smeared because the newest certified tech just got him a fancy new 575 ft/lb Ingersoll-Rand impact and goes all hairy-ballzak on your nuts. Not to mention fucking up your wheels. Maybe you like that. I do not.
Or perhaps paying those same juice-bombers to change your oil and leave a small portion of the Exxon Valdez oil slick hanging out in your skidplate. It would be a nice perfect world if you actually got what you pay for. But this is not that world.
You go to the dealership for warranty repairs.

just say "i dont know how to fix or maintain anything" "Everything i touch breaks" "I just buy brand new" thats why you own a battery powered lawn motor for your disgrace of a lawn and your tool set was received as a christmas gift from someone who thought you looked "handy".

Knowing that you did the work yourself means that it was done correctly. you werent on a timeline to get it out in 10 mins and you werent doing it for your 10/hr. I do it because i have trust issues with people... have you walked around the mall lately or maybe you have and you're the one's im talking about?

 

You can do the oil change yourself for under $20, way better than wasting money and valuable time at the Dealership.

 

Why not do it yourself and take six hours with stripping the plug ask me how I know
