I've got a '19, and I was (and kinda still am) disappointed in the transmission.

Best advise I can give you is run it in ECT mode and drive the piss out of it. It's not a perfect fix, but it's an improvement.

    Another one!

    Yes the transmission is horrendous.
95% of people here will tell you that you are the crazy one, not the transmission. My wife makes faster decisions about dinner than this fucktard transmission can shift. Damn I can't wait for OV tune.

All joking aside - If you’re past 1k miles, why are you just now asking what’s wrong with the transmission if you’re truly clueless about all the 3rd gen threads on this board discussing the common tranny issues?

I mean, I noticed it was dogshit after a single test drive at the dealership lol - the damn thing wouldn’t hold 75mph on the freeway without downshifting/upshifting constantly.

Solution if you love the truck otherwise and have cash: regear to 4.88, the rear diff oil is probably super low from factory anyways so
You’ll kill a few birds with one stone.

I didn't notice, on two different test drives how bad it was. Took me about a week of owning it to notice.

Here is a few of my favorite fix for this.
    1. Put more gas pedal into it.
    2. Drive Ect mode only.
    3. Drive S5 only
    4. Combine 2 and 3
    5. Get pedal commander
    6. Ovt tune
    7. Regear
    8. Trade it for a Tundra.

Seems ridiculous that you have to do those things to be able to cruise on the highway without the studdering. Can you imagine if you got a TV and the only way to watch it was to hold the power button down with your finger, or the volume would cut out randomly unless you turned it up to max level.

Yeah it is pretty bad. Toyota is going downhill.

I wouldnt say they are going downhill, I would say that cars are getting too complicated for their own good.

I used to have a 2005 Lexus ES330. Same funky transmission shit. Same bitching over at the Lexus forum. Rumor says Toyota did this purposely in order to meet mileage goals.

Hard to fathom, but 99.9% of Taco owners wouldn’t be here if Grampa didn’t give Granny’s chicken coop a once-over.

Welcome to the shifting club, lots of Tacoma fan boy hyena's here (that never offer up first hand experience) waiting to bounce on new members with their shameless responses.

If you're new to a forum "Search" is your first step.
If you're really liking this truck there are two routes that cost IMHO big money.
1st is Re-Gearing the truck because IMHO is too high. About $2000
2nd Re-tuning the truck. About $700 if you have a dedicated PC laptop to flash your truck with.

Other than that use Sport mode together with ECT.

If you have other issues about the truck sell it now, plenty of fan boys to buy it.
