    Hey all,

I bought a 2015 trd sport, dclb a little over a year ago. It was a certified pre owned Tacoma, from a toyota dealer.
Anyway it came from the dealer with an aftermarket alarm system, probably installed by previous owner for the remote start function.
I've been using remote start for the whole time I've had the truck and usually it works fine.
But it has had a few hiccups. Sometimes instead of starting the truck, it will trip the alarm, have to press unlock for it to stop beeping. Then i go to the truck to start it with the key, and it won't start. All other electronics are on and working though, so it's not the battery. If I try to start it like this, it won't even turn over, just makes a rapid clicking sound that honestly scares me. After a few times it will eventually start. But I can tell something is still wrong because after I turn off the engine, it won't make the usual noises it would on turning off the engine.
Should I just go and get the stock Toyota alarm installed?

What brand is the alarm? Have you tried reaching out to the manufacturer to see if this is common and if there is an easy solution? You may also just check the installation to see how the wires were connected. Something could be loose or connected improperly.

The alarm brand is Pursuit. I should try to contact them about it I suppose. I remember I looked on their website once and it seems like there is not much info there but I'll have to take another look. Also I haven't really been able to locate it under the hood. I haven't done an in depth look for it but it seems like it is hidden somewhere pretty well lol.
I will definitely see what the wiring looks like, thank you. I didn't really know where to start.

I don't know either, but everything was inside the kick panel on the driver side (to the left of your left foot when driving) when I looked into it for our 4runner. The unit is most likely inside the cab of the truck. I don't think you'll see anything under the hood.

Ahhh that makes much more sense. That's the first place I will look now, thanks again.

Call the mfg and talk to customer support. Anything else is a waste of time unless they tell you to get lost. Other option would be to look at install instructions and try to make sure they were followed.

If it makes a ratcheting sound like a playing card in the bicycle spokes, coming from under the hood, it's a low battery or corroded cables.

That does seem like the kind of sound I did hear this morning as I was trying to go to work. It wouldn't even turn over, but made that ratcheting clicky noise. Last time this happened, battery read 4 volts, then our of nowhere, shot back up to above 12 and everything was fine for months, until today. Maybe I'll test the battery again and clean up the connections, etc. Might just need a new battery I guess. Truck only has 29k miles on it

When dealing with batteries, time is more important than mileage. I seem to get about 4 years on batteries in my Tacoma. If yours is OEM (2015), then it is likely due for a change.
