My holes are underneath both front tow hooks. Missed them on several inspections. TG dealership saw and failed my frame. Now waiting, could take a year.

Update on mine... called another dealer and spoke with service manager. He said yeah they’ll take a look at both holes for me and was trying to schedule it so someone from Toyota would be there to look at it too. Now someone from the regional Toyota office said no, not allowed to reinspect because they first hole was mine fault. So, wtf? I told they guy on the phone I did it and he said to bring it in. Thinks it’s BS that a frame should crumble, but still it did happen because I touched it. Still don’t know what that has to do with the other hole. The SM is trying to escalate for me, but says I’d probably need to take it to Toyota corporate.

I gotta stop reading this stuff, it gets in my head. Super frustrating, I hate this kind of runaround and I hope you guys can get stuff all sorted out for the better quickly.

My 2010 passed inspection when I first got notice in the mail. And I basically assumed it would be a non-issue because I'm out west, Sierras and high desert, we get good snow but they use sand rather than salt on our roads. I don't get under the truck as much as I should, can't say I've noticed any rust under there, but does anyone else from my region have any other experiences and lessons to pass on concerning the frame rust issue?

why do you qualify for a new frame??? when i bought my truck private party feb of 2019, it had never been done before and they told me the recall for the frame ended in march of 2016 so i figured i missed out! Was it just the dealer i went to???

From what I’ve read some of the dealers either don’t know or don’t care. For US trucks think it 10 years unless you let them inspect and apply their undercoating within 2 years of getting the letter then you get 12. So maybe yours never went back for the inspection. Need to goto Toyota’s site and check the VIN or call CS. If yours was an 05 it was probably over before you bought.

If your '05 was originally sold new in the US, your eligibility ended January 31, 2019. Since jaydee has a '10, he is eligible til late '21 or early '22, depending on when the date of 1st use was.

Both of the dealers are wrong. The frame replacement is a result of a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit wasn't even settled in 2016. There are 2 settlements. 1 for Canadian Tacos and 1 for US Tacos. Both are very clear that it's 12 years from date of 1st use.

It seems to be insanely common for people that live in areas with salted roads. I consider myself extremely fortunate living in Arizona for this reason. Seen guys on here with newer trucks than mine that the frames where so rusted they look like they where manufactured in the 70s.

Just got mine passed on it’s third inspection in 3 years.lt is a 2010 double cab with just over a 100,000 miles. When l first bought it l took it to my local Toyota dealer and they did one of those dumbass 100 point inspections (I already had taken to a independent tech before to find out what it needed). They checked the frame at that time and said it was ok.They did do the leaf spring recall at that time.l had it checked last year, but still was good.Had it checked a month ago and it was rusty enough to replace it.So waiting on parts right now.Frame, brake lines, etc.
I already have 2018 strut takeoffs and wheels,so there really isn’t a lot l need. Can anyone chime in on this?

All l can say is be patient......

Dealer called this morning and said the frame had arrived. They will start on it Monday the fourth. Hopefully it goes smooth and painless seeing as the truck only has 65k miles on it.

Mines going in Monday the 4th also. Putting in new shocks and coils, other than that see what they recommend. 242,000 km. Holes in the front, right under the tow hooks.

Probably a waste of time to chime in here but I have a 2015, with noticeable weld rust. Nothing as far as holes yet, but I don’t want it to get there...

Is there any recall that covers the 2015? I can’t seem to find a conclusive answer on TW or on google. Thanks

I just got a recall notice in the mail today for 2011-2017 frames. I’ll post a pic a little later.

will the letter only go to the original purchaser? mine was bought this spring with 5k miles on it, one owner for the first four years.

I spent a couple days with a wire brush, a couple of cans of stop rust, self etching primer and high strength enamel doing all welds inside the boxed area ( best I could) lowered the spare tire and repainted my own. Granted it wasn’t bad just some surface rust. I’m waiting a couple more weeks and I will be applying FF before the winter. Every post I see that Toyota has coated looks like cancer has spread all over.
