I’ve seen it happen first hand. Luckily it wasn’t a tendon but a pretty nasty cut. We had sleds and were able to get her to the vet quick. She absolutely charges through chest deep powder! A6C47914-F956-4740-AC58-6D44E695463E.jpg

Love doing road trips. 3 summers ago, did a trip from Jacksonville, FL (current residence) to Boise, ID in the Tacoma. Stayed in CO and Salt Lake for most of the time. Hit Moab on the way home. That was over 6k miles. Two summers ago was in my wife's Corolla to CA (our home state), and hit CO on the way home. On the road for just over a month. That was over 10k miles. This past summer was in the Tacoma again for just over 6k miles. Drove to CO, stayed with friends. That was just under a month long. That trip took me over 300k miles on the truck. Camping most of the time on all trips.

Looking forward to this summer's trip. Haven't decided on the destination yet. Possibly Maine.

Just finished a camping trip with my brother and friends a good ways up North in British Columbia. Was able to stop by Hyder Alaska, but there really wasn't too much happening in that town...

This thing I built performed great. 1st one I've ever built. Definitely too heavy, but the thing was bombproof and withstood many kilometres of rough roads.

Will probably be making a new one with the lessons learned from this one!

Nice build! How did it drive with the weight distributed on the on one side? And how necessary do you think it was having drawers as opposed to open cubbies ? Did you treat the wood with anything?
Alaska is definitely on my bucket list but I’d like to do it on touring bikes with a buddy.

I purposely built it on the right side to compensate for the fuel tank that's underneath on the left-hand side. Whether it really affected left/right balance, I can't say for sure. May have helped a little with the infamous "Taco Lean"?
One thing it did affect was front to back weight balance. I was clearly squatting (negative rake?) on my back end from the added weight of this thing - especially when i had a full tank of gas.
Drawers came in handy. I would say moreso a "luxury", but nice to have. I was able to set up my camp stove on the end with it slightly pulled out. My brother needed something in the back while I was cooking - "No problem!" Just kept sliding it out while cooking and he was able to grab what he needed!
Had I more time, I was intending to treat the wood with Spar urethane. I think they use the stuff for wood on boats? This thing went on the trip untreated, but thankfully was exposed to virtually zero moisture.

On a bike! Whew! That will be quite the ride! Perhaps an obvious suggestion - be sure to pack bear mace and/or bear bangers. The amount of bears I saw on the side of the road was staggering.

Agreed. Chicago is fine if you pay attention. Definitely not worth missing the Badlands over. And trust me -- the drive from Columbus to Denver on I-70 is hateful. I've made it more times than I can count.

If you're going to try to hit up Yellowstone keep in mind that the park is closing soon to vehicles in preperation of winter season. Right now the only entrances/roads open to vehicles are Gardiner and West Yellowstone. And those will close at 8am on 11/4 completely. Also, the weather isn't looking great for the next couple of weeks and I wouldn't be surprised to see the roads closed temporarily due to snow.
You'll have to come in or leave via I90/ Highway 89 at Livingston, MT and Highway 191 at West Yellowstone
