So just finished my tow rig and i thought id share. IMG_5282.jpg
This is what it looks like as of right now. Not done but useable for what i need it for. More mods to come but ill save that for later.

    It started here
    IMG_3359.jpg
Picked this dually up on the cheap with no title. Its an old uhaul truck with 30k on it. I was going to cab swap it and solid axle it. But the more i thought about it the more i wanted an extended cab and more creature comforts like rack and pinion steering. Thats when i found this truck also on the cheap
    IMG_4184.jpg
Back half of the frame soft front half solid. I then had the crazy idea to cut both trucks in half and make one. So i did
    IMG_4220.jpg
Oddly enough the one ton frame fit inside the tacoma frame. Here is a small section on dually frame inside tacoma.
    IMG_4221.jpg
I cut both frames longer than I needed. I ended up with a foot of overlap.
    IMG_4905.jpg
Also the dually came with 14" wheels. That simply wont do so i found a set of dodge wheels on craigs. Turned my hubs down at work and redrilled the wheels.
    IMG_4331.jpg IMG_4145.jpg IMG_4144.jpg
The 2uz swap consisted of the ebay bellhousing, 3s modified flywheel, and 3s clutch. The motor mount brackets are off a 03 4runner with a 2uz. I used the right one on the left side upside down and the left side on the right side upside down. I mated them up with 5vz motor mounts and it just bolted in.

Fuel tank is a tundra unit.
    IMG_4925.jpg IMG_4960.jpg
Struts/springs are tundra and so are the brakes
    IMG_5028.jpg
After all that was sorted I just put the puzzle together

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I love this creation, right on dude. One question though, the W59 isn't exactly all that strong past 200hp, what's the plan for keeping that from giving up the ghost.

Jesus Christ. You are a madman for doing this. I gotta give you props though, it almost looks like the damn thing came from the factory like that. How was swapping the v8 like? Mechanically it doesn't seem bad but the wiring is what seems daunting.

I saw you have what looks like Ford or Dodge mirrors, how did you go about mating it to the Tacoma stock mounts? I've been wanting to do something like that myself.

Can't imagine how you go about registering/insuring something like that since it's essentially half Tacoma/1 ton flatbed.

The transmission i think will hold up if im sensable with it. The w58 came behind the 2jz supra with over 200hp factory. Its a tow rig i dont wheel it or abuse it. I use it to haul thats all.

Dodge tow mirrors they were cheap and they do what need them to do. The v8 swap was pretty strait forward. With the 4runner v8 brackets the motor litteraly bolted in the 5vz mounts. The wiring wasnt all the bad. Two plugs on the cu need to be wired in. One 4 wire plug under the hood for the starter and alternator wires. Theres two large plugs that go from the dash harness to the engine harness that plugged right in. I have to move wires around to make it work but overall it wasnt too bad. I registered and insured it as a 95 tacoma.

    Update

I’ve been putting the miles on the truck and it has been serving me well. I do not get notifications for this thread idk why. Ive fought with the cooling system for some time and finally got it sorted out. I ended up using a 03 4runner v8 radiator, shroud, and clutch fan. I had to notch the frame a little for it to fit. But i no long have overheating issues on hot days. Im also trying to get the a/c working here are some pictures
