My timing chain snapped and now I need to replace my engine. Used and re-mans cost about the same.

Who is the best for re-mans?
Jasper and Tristar no longer make this engine.

Personally, I'd try to find a low mileage OEM unit out of a salvage yard.

@JustDSM Thanks for the link. At the same cost, what's the advantage of a used engine over a re-man?

An engine assembled by Toyota will in just about every case outlast a reman. The parts quality, tolerance and attention to detail during assembly of an OEM motor will exceed that of remanufactured unit.

Not many stories of reman engines with 200k+

Does anyone have an opinion on LKQ Corp vs. Ebay sellers like 'Wilbertslakeside' vs. the engines listed on car-part, specifically for used tacoma engines? All prices are similar, but shipping and warranty costs vary.

Side note: thank you @JustDSM for the car-part link.

LKQ has been good to me sourcing spare ECU's (which has little to do with engines). They're a nation wide recycler chain but my experience with them would lead me to favor using them over buying a engine via eBay. If for no other reason, should the engine they provide you have some issue, they're got a larger pool of engines to sample from to get you a quality replacement.

Hope that helps some, and you're most welcome for the link. I do hope that whatever option you go with, you get what you need and can get your truck back on the road.
