Well it’s that time. Need a new motor for my 1995 2.7L. Original motor crapped out at 225k put a reman in and blew head gasket at only 12k without overheating. Blew 6 months after the 3yr warranty was up. Sucks, didn’t drive the truck for a year and half due to moving away. Pulled head and the block is warped and so out of spec the local machine shop said it’s to low to resurface.

So it’s time for a new motor. I’ve been doing a bunch of research on the web and here on TW. Found plenty of sites that offer reman motors but hard to pull the trigger on anything due to bad reviews for every site (JDM, RockAuto, local auto shops, APR Auto, etc.)

I would rebuild but with the block pretty much shot I probably won’t be able to. I would like to find a decent used motor but with mine only being built for 3 years it’s been a hell of a time to find a junkyard motor.

If anyone has had any luck with purchasing remans or any other advice id like to know.

An electric 1995 Tacoma 4x4 would be super cool

Where are you located? I know finding used is difficult due to the years I would look for a running engine out of a wrecked truck. I'm pretty sure some 3rd gen 4runners came with the 2.7l so that can open up the donor pool a bit

2.7l 4Runners are pretty damn rare, most of them came with the 3.4l v6. In my experience combing through junkyards they’ve almost always been solely the v6.

im in Santa Barbara county. Not to far to some recyclers in LA but not able to get down there. Using work truck for errands on the way home. Found a 2.7 distributor style out of a 96’ T100 up in Sacramento. Got some family up there that can pick something up for me for the time being.
