What is going to be interesting for me is how these compare to the tacomabeast housings with the Morimoto Elite HID's (what I have now). I'm hoping for better, but if they are at least equal I will be happy. I do love the Elite HID's

 

There's quite a of few people pm'd me about them not having full brightness during the day. I'm doing some digging and going to try to figure out why some functions normal and others don't have full brightness. Don't worry we'll get the guys who don't have full brightness straightened out. My guess would be in the wiring but I'll post more info once I receive it.

@Techsan LOL sorry but “things that matter” you do realize this forum is about Morimoto headlights? So “things that matter is when you spend $1,100 and don’t have a fully working product. As a consumer, you have every right to ask for help, opinion, and advice on a TACOMA Specific MORIMOTO XB headlights FORUM. If you have a working product that’s truly plug n play, great! You should be happy and maybe help the person in need. Not brag “Oh my headlights are working great.“ Put your ego aside. Maybe try having an open mind and be glad you don’t have an issue with your product. If someone is having an issue with a product maybe help them, guide them, find a solution to the problem they’re facing. If you can't, don't comment or make any unhelpful remarks about someone going through an issue.

Anyways, update on the issue. To the person who messaged and met up with us, thank you for fixing our lights. It turns out it was a wiring issue. Now the LED Strips are pure white (stupid bright). I now love these headlights! Great product.

 

So they’re not yellow anymore?

 

Correction. Previously white with a hint of yellow.

 

Can you please elaborate on the wiring issue? There's quite a few others with the same problem and it would great if you can help this forum with the issue.

I have both Morimoto XB and 2020 LED headlights. I also have taken both apart and analyzed the internals(optics, drivers, LEDs,etc)
The XB's are going to have a brighter DRL and turn. No comparison. It is because the XB's use LED's in a continuous row around the entire perimeter.(not even getting into the reflector optics).

The 2020's use a totally different approach. The only have ~6 LED's (compared to 40+ on the XB's) Koito(maker of the lights themselves) utilize a "celis rod" design. This uses a single LED pointed sideways, and shoots it down a fiber optic pipeline, diffusing the light. This minimizes the amount of LED's you need to use because it can spread the light out much more efficiently(I didn't say brighter).

The sequential turn signal on the morimotos are much more fluid. This is because they have more turn signal LED's and were able to break them into smaller groups to get that cool "whoosh" look. While the 2020's ARE sequential, they only have ~ 3 sections that are able to flash in a pattern which dramatically minimizes the cool flow sequential look. They both have their strong suits, but you can definitely appreciate the optical engineering that went into the 2020's. They are 80%~ as bright as the morimotos, all while using a much smaller and 1/10 the amount of LEDS.

For people complaining about thew DRL color temp. Remember the front lens on the XB's is slightly tinted too which makes the color look a little different. No way are the XB's yellowish like some comments suggest above. Camera pictures can be very deceiving. They are a pure white, probably 5-5200k. The OEM 2020's are a little cooler, closer to the 5800k range. They both look white to the average person.

I will say I love the side markers on the 2020's. Using another celius rod and 2 LED's, it creates a halo effect. Morimoto.. take notes for Ver 2.0



But again, all of this doesn't matter because I changed all the white LEDs to amber because we all know it's a much better DRL color!!

No way can TacomaBeast even come into comparison with the XB Morimotos.

 

Housing wise I will 100% agree, but where I'm wondering is the Morimoto Elite HID's vs the Morimoto LED output and color.

 

Its also the projector quality/setup that will make a huge difference.

 

How aimed up is everyones morimotos? What I mean by this question is, is your lights below the vehicle in front of you side mirrors?
