I have a 2005 Tacoma 4x4. It is throwing a code for the catalytic converter on bank 2. The dealer here in Colorado says that my vehicle is CARB compliant and will have to go with a Carb compliant system. I Live in Colorado and have no need to go to California. The dealer is telling me that I would have to change out the motor and computer to switch the vehicle to federal standards. I do no believe them! Can my 2005 Tacoma be converted to just a Federal Cat by just replacing the current Cat to a Federal Cat, and will this clear the check engine light for the code?

I think Magnaflow makes CARB compliant catalytic converters for 2nd gens now. Much cheaper than OEM ones.

You don't want to put shitty cats on your truck anyway, they won't last and you'll be dealing with the same issue over and over again.

I bought Walkers when I changed mine in my 06. It's a cata-fold or man-verter, whatever you want to call it.

As for the dealership they are the only one around. I agree with you, they must be smoking the local wacky weed. The next dealer is an hour away. I would like to go with Magna flow but do I have to stay with CARB compliant? I live in Colorado and want to do away with the CARB compliant. Currently engine light is on and the code is for the CAT on Bank 2. Can I use a regular cat on my truck and not cause any damage to other components of the engine. I am also replacing the O2 censors also.
