Saw a similar thread couple of years back, and have the same problem. I bought a new center console door and latch for the lower compartment, but the lower compartment has some frayed/broken plastic. It seems to be missing a rod/pin that would allow the lower door to lift up and down, but Toyota doesn’t seem to sell such item. Any help would be much appreciated. I noticed that nobody answered the question from the original post.

Never have messed with one. Is there a steel rod that goes across there.?

Mine is broken there too. You’re SOL as that is a molded plastic piece integral to the console.

    OME and worth every penny.
Get a soldering iron and weld plastic. Helps if you have all old pieces and you can not mix two different types or it just falls off after it cools but I bought a canoe repair iron and use it on all kinds of stuff.

edit: after looking at your photo and seeing what you're asking for, I guess you're SOL on this console. Prob. going to have to either find a new (used) one or just use a door type hinge mounted in the right position to work.

Wonder if you could clean the area up then rivet a piano hinge in somehow? Might require some thin metal for bracing on underside that’s bent 90 degrees on L&R so it cab be riveted on from the sides and top. It would be tedious to line it up correctly but seems feasible. If that experiment fails just buy a junkyard console.

Easy fix on my 2000 Taco it broke there also I installed a 1/2 inch plate across the top where it broke out after I cut out the rest I made the plate flat across the top with a 2 inch bend down on each end then with small wood screws I put it in place then took a 1/2 inch piano hing mounted it to the cover and the plate.

1995-2000 console is a tad different than the 2001-2004. The newer variation is a double decker design.

So? still can be done the same way quite simple no major tools required no need to complicate it.
