i took me 2019 in for it's 5,000 mile service. i asked the girl who did the scheduling if they check the transmission fluid, she said yes. the day i take it into the dealer i asked if they check the fluid level.....NO they don't. i said how i was merging onto a highway and stepped on the gas and it went into 6th gear now i have a car coming up on me pretty fast. i get mad and stomp on it and now it goes into what felt like 2nd gear, about broke me neck... the driveway up to me house is about a 40 degree incline. i'm driving up at about 15 mph and it goes into 6th gear....

out on the highway if it downshifts to 5th gear it only stays there for about a second and then back into 6th gear. if i'm going 65 or 70 mph it flutters like it wants to do something, maybe looking for 7th gear. sometimes it clunks when shifting into 3rd. or 4th gear. S mode helps somewhat. some days are better than others. so i mention all these things to the service guy and he says it takes about hour and the temperature it had to be at, all the things that i've seen on this site, if i wasn't so damn old i'd try to check it meself. and to the one person on this site,...yes i test drove it! it has gotten worse.

Most likely, the fluid level will be fine. The “low transmission fluid” is a myth reinforced by TW paranoia.

Vehicles have not had auto-transmission dipsticks for near a decade now.

Welcome. You really have to stomp on it to get that power, which you felt almost break your neck.

S mode for the win. Drive it like it's a manual

Not something you wanna hear from an Auto transmission but my truck drives very well when I'm telling it what gear to be in.

Somehow I found a way to get my truck into 6th gear doing 75~ on the freeway with my 33s. Slight incline I can go down to 5th, add pressure very lightly and she will hold

Before I just left it in 4th on freeway, 3k rpms at 75~, feels amazing tbh lol

It’s not a fluid problem, (never was) and if it was fine on the test drive then it may be a reading too many TW transmission problems issue.

But there is a fix for that!

DO use S mode around town and push ECT button at start.

Continue using those two until one day you forget to engage them and notice you haven’t, but dind’t see a difference.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

I'd have to agree with that, especially given that the fluid is filled at the factory with precise machines that meter the fluid based on weight. It's not some half-hungover dude pouring in qts of fluid by hand and eyeballing it.

well whether it's fluid level or not, a person shouldn't have to find the right combination for each driving condition. they've detuned the engines to the point they have no snuff, i guess to keep the epa happy. i don't understand why they did this to the tacoma. my son has a new tundra and the engine and transmission are compatible. none of this being stuck behind an old woman doing 25 mph in high gear, now i have to go into "S" mode and if it's in ECT it's getting close to tundra gas mileage. i'm playing with the shifter like it's a standard transmission. at least with a standard i'd know what gear i'm in. i traded an 03 tundra which was the first automatic i ever owned, in hind sight i should have kept it. the dealer didn't have any 6 cyl. standard shift but the more i thought about it with all the traffic jambs i thought i'm on the clutch, off the clutch, although a year earlier i did test drive a 4 cyl. standard shift. that was totally gutless. so anyways i lease and i guess i'm stuck until toyota makes some engineering changes instead of all the bells and whistles.

My '19 shifts fine but makes a whining noise like most older ranger's power steering. Power steering fluid level was fine and didn't need an advanced degree to check it. Making an effort to stay away from the dealer this go around so I'll wait for it to get worse..or break.

I wasn’t happy with my 19 constantly hunting for gears, tried to make peace with it, failed, finally regeared to 5:29 and have been happy. Next, waiting for the 5:29 OV tune.
