How many of you upsize your spare when upsizing your tires?

    Having had both Sport and OR, IMO the sport handles better on pavement. Not bumpy pot hole roads, but smooth pavement. On not so smooth roads the Sport will rattle your dentures, and if you don't have any, it might put you on the path go get a set. I think too much is made about how the OR handles on pavement. Yeah, if you take a corner really hard you'll see some lean and if you stomp the brakes the nose will dive a bit but it's not like it' undriveable on pavement as is the case with a Sport on a mild OR trail.

    Currently running Goodyear DuraTracs with "ghetto" wheels

    In the US, Sport is the only option if one wants V6 MT in AC.

    Suspension can be changed, scooped hood is stronger (less issues) and MT delivers power to 4.30 rear differential. It's quite off road capable after some changes. Still cheaper than a Pro.

    Fingers crossed, but I've been on my 265/70/17 for about 10k without upsizing my offroad spare. Recently just purchased a 17 inch FJ spare wheel and looking for a used AT tire in my area. Something that may get me by if I were unlucky.

    I have no use for the OR traction gimmicks and I live in OR country. I have ATVs, dirt bikes, tractor, or horses for whatever the Sport can't manage. I do need stiff suspension for all the switchbacks around here, and I need to be able to dodge deer and turtles without feeling like the boat is about to capsize. Mostly, I would have had to change out the suspension on the OR and that would make the overall investment impractical.

    Ever wonder why OR owners enjoy picking on Sport owners over that lame hood, when they know that's not the important difference? Is it envy? Buyer's remorse?

    Rear electronic locker and a front axle computer controlled "brake locker" certainly are gimmicks. Just plain old window dressing compared to regular differentials.

    Some people routinely choose bad paths through obstacles, so they like to have some form of token whizbang to bail them out when they screw up. Diff lock for OR folk, Fed bailouts for banksters, EBT for the folk priced out of the economy by minwage, etc.

    All those gimmicks serve their purpose as well as the others.

    My truck goes through muck, up/down mountains, through creeks woods and meadows, and never gets stuck. Stock suspension, stock shoes. I haven't tried the Brown Mtn ORV area with it cuz I like my organs where they are and that course will scramble your insides, but I'm certain any Tacoma can go up that mountain with a half-decent driver. Last time we were there, we helped two drivers who beached their 4x4s on rocks, yet there was a guy selling sodas out of a stock Chevy Astro van at the top! It was a little banged up, but it's got 2WD limited slip and no clearance. What a show-off and wonderful bastard that guy is. I wonder what kind words he'd have for the OR zealots here.

    Last time I was on the beach, I was doing a bit of driving in the slush, pulling a trailer, 4 Lo, doing work, and then bogged down. Could have gotten out and shoveled to recover, or gotten a pull, but instead I just hit the ATRAC button and let the computer have some fun too.

    It's fine to talk about driving skill and "picking lines", but you cannot deny that traction control systems are more capable than plain 4x4. Furthermore, if you're actually out on a trail, and not just playing around in a park, you should be treading lightly. There's no "line" to pick, you either go through / over the obstacle, or go backwards. Just like bigger tires literally allow you to clear obstacles, having the ability to send power to one specific wheel is just an improvement on being able to send power to one specific axle.

    I see that some of you guys cut the exhaust to accommodate a full size spare. Can you pass smog if you cut the tail pipe?
