Another Tire Thread (sorry!)

I'll try and make this short and sweet.

I live in Northwest Indiana, just a few miles from Lake Michigan. I do a good mix of city, highway, and light trail driving (grassy, rutted, gravel, or sandy backroads). Winter can get...well...wintry.

I had a 2015 Tacoma, came with Dunlop AT20's. They worked great for the entire time I had the truck. No complaints in heavy rain/water, winter, etc. They worked for me just fine.

Traded the truck in for a new one.

Got a 2017 Tacoma, came with Toyo A30's. Garbage. They have sucked since I've had this truck. It's been a struggle between economy and practicality, but FINALLY I am ready to get rid of these.

Of course my question is what do those who run all seasons and/or all terrains like at the moment?

I do not want to have two sets of wheels/tires. I have a set of KO's on my daughters lifted Wrangler...while they are pretty sweet, I do not think I want them for the stock Tacoma.

I thought about the Wrangler All Terrain Adventure, and a few others I've seen, but I am trying to do my homework.

I'd prefer to keep it stock, but these Toyo's CANNOT be repeated.

What say you? Who's got the best AS, AT, or AS/AT 265/65/17?

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road. It came stock with the Wrangler (Kevlar) Adventures, size 16, but none the less the same tire you mention above. They seem fine for what I've done so far...some field roads, edge of corn/bean fields, etc... I live in Southrn Illinois so not that much different terrain than you outside of a little less snow probably. The Wranglers are quiet on the highway as well. But I would come closer to calling them an all-season tire rather than an all-terrain. I have a '19 Wrangler and I put Falken AT3Ws on it, and have had them on other vehicles as well. They are a great all-terrain tire. And when you consider the price you can get them for vs KO2s, Nittos, Duratracs, etc, I don't think they can be beat! Check them out...

I forgot to mention, there are threads on here dedicated to the Falken AT3Ws. I've not heard a bad thing about them from any forum member.

 

If you have a budget, I like cooper at3s for the money. They aren’t beauties like the KO2s... but good all around tire with a *little* bit of an aggressive look.

You can even get a 265/70/17 for $14 LESS per tire than the 265/65/17s. Kinda weird but that's what they're priced at...$153 vs $139 each on Amazon.

 

I got the Toyo A30's also & all they did was spin in the rain. I think Toyota put these on for MPG & that they could get millions of them easily.

I told the wife I needed snow tires asap & got Wildpeaks that have been great

 

Falken in stock size thru Discount Tire shows $170 tire in Reno, NV. Seems reviews are good, usage about what I do, not sure about rolling resistance.

Clarification...I should have said All Season is my primary concern, with All Terrain if I can get it, instead of just AT. Thanks for pointing that out, and for the info.

 

Got about 2000 miles on my 235 85 16 duratracs and no complaints yet.... winter is coming. I feel like this tire could handle anything I could possibly throw at it with the truck in stock form.

I absolutely love these Cooper discoverer XLTs I just put on my truck. They only come in 285/75/16 which is a bit large for a stock truck, but if I wasn’t lifted, I would 100% be putting the Cooper AT3 LTs on my truck.

I have BFGs KO2 and no problems with them. Would I need them again? probably not.

What do you use your truck for? off roading? light, heavy? street king?

Are you looking for overall weight of a tire for a all season or all terrain? To keep that MPGs or want to lose that 1-3 MPGs with heavier tires?

 

The KO2's are awesome on our Wrangler, but I just don't need that aggressiveness on the Tacoma.

I'm looking for a balance. Primarily all-season, but as much wet and winter traction as I can get...for an all-season. Off-road is pretty light, nothing deep, nothing serious.

If I lose 1-3 mpg but don't need two sets of wheels and tires, and I have a good balance of all-season and all-terrain, I'm good.

Toyo's suck. Can't even handle a June rain, let alone a January blizzard and deep freeze.

 

Nokian Rotiiva A/T looks good on paper...
700AA, 36 lbs for stock size, 50,0000 mile warranty, severe weather approved, reinforced sidewall...

 

Good to know Falken Wildpeaks are getting decent snow performance. I got set of winter tires for wife's Civic Si, but I don't want to bother with my '17 TRD Sport. Original tires were garbage. I have good hopes for my Wildpeaks in 265/70R17.

I've looked at all the options everyone has presented, and I think I'm going to try those Goodyear AT Adventures with the Kevlar. I stopped and took a look then did some research online. Current prices for the 265/65/17 are in the $212-$217, so quite pricey for a standard size. BUT! I actually got a very nice deal with my local tire shop in addition to a substantial current rebate on them, so I'm quite happy.

I hope they perform as well as I expect them to. No, not the best offroad tire. No, not the best snow tire. No, not the best highway tire. But supposedly a very nice compromise for AS and AT with good traction, wear, and life according to everything I've looked at (and thanks to quite a few TacomaWorld members for your input!).

I'll get some pics after I get them on, and keep everyone updated on how they do.

Kicking myself in the ass for getting AT tire. Driving snow or rain is straight dangerous. I have Hankook atm’s

 

Costco starts their Bridgestone sale tomorrow. I am ordering a set of stock P265/70 R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 tires. They come highly recommended and have researched the heck out of them. I JUST sold my TRD Pro wheels w/ BFG KO2's with only 8K miles on them. They are a great off road tire, but for 95% highway, they are HEAVY! I even had the "C" load ranges. I am sticking to factory sized, and want a good tire I can run all year.
