RI spot is 100% stock friendly. Rock climb is also doable stock. Just need some decent spotting. Only place not stock friendly would be the rock climb to the right of the one people usually do. Don't be afraid to go there with a stock truck.


That being said anything could happen, so just be aware of that and accept it. Chances are slim, but there's always a chance you get body or mechanical damage.

 

I've done this run a few times.
I found that at least removing your beard and mud flaps you'll hear less scraping and worry less.

 

I don't remember when hunting season is down there. I won't be available - probably heading up north to pitch a tent........

Depends. Most have CB's, but they can have limited range depending on how you've got it tubed, terrain etc...

A simpler solution is using FRS/GMRS or MURS radios. Better range , no tuning required etc. But that is assuming everyone in the group has a comparable radio

 

Can always grab one of these and hook up a mag mount.

Or there's the UV-5r route but I won't dive down that hole. It can tx/rx on ham, murs, FRS, gmrs, but is only intended for Ham. And that's as far as I'll go into that and let everyone be their own person. Haha.

UV-5r is what I have. It brings it's own issues, especially with some amateur radio hardos. IMO it's great, but one needs to understand it fully.

That said it's great for "emergency only" situations, which is obviously the only time I use it.

But there is a sweet gmrs mobile radio that packs 50w that's half the cost of the midland. If people start hopping on those rigs the comm world would be fantastic for us. That rig cranks crystal clear forever.

A more affordable option are the two mentioned above and you can get a hand mic and a mag mount antenna to make it crystal clear and easier to use.

Sincerely, the dude who gets paired up with the big rig to find a way out on expeditions because I have long range comms. Haha
