That is one of those partial myth things. Good modern GL-5s will not harm bronze/brass.

Amsoil and others make good GL-4 MT fluids.

Now I know there are some poorly made GL-5 some low cost gear oils that I would not put in my MTs.

 

I am sure you are right, but I come back to the following:

why risk it to save $50 every three years? It costs you 4 extra cents a day to run the Toyota LF fluid. You probably gain more than that back in fuel economy.

Yep. If a lube supplier says they don't have a suitable replacement or substitute, take their word for it.

So is that Redline saying their MT-LV is close to the Toyota 75W LF, but just not quite there?

 

It says that their MT-LV will provide the same level of protection as the OEM at the minimum, possibility more.

While that is probably true, I don't see why people wouldn't just run the Golden fluid from Toyota, you change it what once a year at most?

 

Because Toyota already gets enough of my money. It's basically a monopoly if no one else makes something that also works.

 

Seems like a silly reason to save maybe 30 dollars, but to each their own.

 

And having more options is never a bad thing.

 

More like saving $60 when it's listed as $87.52 on toyota's website. Seems like a silly reason to give Toyota more money for them to make probably a 600% profit on.

 

But like I mentioned earlier, if there isn't more concrete info and testing results by about March of next year, I'll end up with the Toyota snake oil anyways. I swear that stuff is made from liquid Platinum.
