I’ve had both and only miss the long bed for sleeping in when I had a shell. Unless you regularly haul something that’s more than 5’ but less than 6’ the small difference isn’t significant. 8’ or longer lumber will overhang whichever you get. I e hauled small quantities of 16’ lumber through the rear slider and overhanging a bit over the tailgate, no problem. But I find The length of even my DCSB to be a handful in some urban parking situations, and some trails, so no DCLB for me. And I like the back seat for secure cargo space or for passengers, so no ACLB for me either.

DCLB w/ Softopper here. I sought out the long bed since I could sleep in it when camping. There's been many times I've filled my bed up with helping people move, going hunting, you name it. I've never felt the need off road for it to be shorter. Are you more likely to high-center? Yes. Might you have to take an extra point in turns on the trail. Possible. For me, the extra capacity was well worth the added wheelbase and cost.

Short bed because manual off-road 4x4, but camping on/in truck was a pain until rtt . Got a bed tent and it was too small

The ACLB isn't bad for kids, I was in the same boat and considering the DCLB but fuel economy penalty, no 4cyl, higher price etc. and realized as long as the passenger or you are short (I'm 5 8) then a child seat fits fine in the back and you can actually reach them a little easier if you need to comfort them on a long ride.

If you off road- short bed
If you dont off road- long bed.

Most people I know personally have regretted buying the short bed over time because of the small space. I love to off road, but ended up getting the long bed because I couldn't pass up the good price. Plus if the wife kicks me out I can sleep in the long bed

But not whatever combination of those options we want unfortunately. I was set on manual transmission so I didn't have a bed length option. Only offered with short bed. No real complaints with the short bed, but I would have chosen the long if it was an option.

Long bed, because I wanted to use every inch of the garage.

I keep seeing this. LB AC has the same exact wheelbase as SB DC.

No long bed options for a Tacoma. It’s short bed and regular bed. Long bed is an 8 foot bed.

I believe my 1983 Toyota SR-5 “long-bed” (as designated by Toyota) pickup had a 7 foot bed.
