While I was detailing the hood, I rested my hand on this shroud or weatherstripping that seals to the windshield. The part that is circled popped underneath the windshield. I got it pulled out and back over top of the windshield but I am not sure if it was glued/sealed to the windshield. Does anyone know if this is the case? And if so will it leak behind the dashboard and cause a problem? Thanks 5A51DD7B-8330-4FA0-A1EA-15DA31421D64.jpg

Had the same issue before. I just pulled it out and haven't noticed any issue with it. That was about 6 months ago.

As far as I know I think that seal is not stuck with any sort of adhesive. I had this happen with my Subaru before I got my Taco and I had it for a long time. Didn't notice any issues with part of it up a little bit near the edges of the window. I could be wrong but I don't believe it will be an issue.

I washed my truck this past weekend and started noticing the same thing, only after a year of ownership.

I did the same. That cowling (around windshield and wipers) is one piece and simply rests on your windshield. My dealer told me that its main purpose is to keep lots of water and leaves/needles out.

Mine is pulled away from my windshield by about 1/8 inch, right where your circle is.

Has anyone noticed any issues with this? I have the same thing (maybe worse) than the original poster. I’m wondering if I need to get it fixed? Also if I replace my windshield, will they put new weather stripping in that area?

The purpose of that rubber strip is to keep debris (needles, leaves, etc.) out. It is part of the larger cowl piece that surrounds your wipers. You will not get a new one with a windshield replacement. You can replace the cowling pretty easily but it may be more than you want to spend. I think yours will function fine, just depends on how important aesthetics are to you. There are threads on this forum detailing how to remove and replace the cowling. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! My truck is still under warranty, do you think Toyota will provide a new cowl to fix the weather stripping?

That would be sweet if they did. Mine was replaced under warranty but my truck was only a week old. I think it’s worth asking. Can’t hurt. Good luck.

Well shocker... Toyota won’t cover it cuz it was more than likely caused by an “outside force”... does anyone have the part # for the cowl/weather stripping?

That rippling in the seal looks like what happens when excessive heat is applied to a rubber seal.

I live in Washington State so it couldn’t be environmental... and I know I’ve never applied a heat gun/hair dryer to the windshield. Toyota will wiggle their way out of anything.
