Just curious if anyone has found a way to remove grid lines from the stock rear view camera.... I have searched the inter webs along with the tube of you and have found nothing. Wondering if anyone has found a fix for this. since I have relocated my camera to my swing out the angle is a bit off (not downward like it is in the tailgate hitch).

I don’t know how to remove the lines but I would probably try to re-position the angle of the camera downward a little bit (maybe with a shim) to be like it was before. I find the lines helpful especially in tight situations.

Some cameras have a wire you can cut to turn off the guide lines, check the instructions carefully. Otherwise, try acetone- that takes off a lot of stuff.

I was gonna try this actually I figure it’s one of four wires... white and black are power and ground then you have blue and red one of which is connected to the reverse light circuit to tell when in reverse... the only other thing I can think that the remaining wire goes to is the monitor. If that’s the case then the lines are programmed in and it’s a software issue to figure out

I’m not sure how acetone will help tho...

My camera came with a wire loop to cut if I didn't want the guide lines. So it had the loop and 3 others; 12v+, gnd, video out. The head unit switches the camera on in my case.

oh, and don’t try acetone. ;)

    UPDATE!
So I experimented with some small pieces of wire and splices to fit over the pins in the male connector. These can simulate if I was to cut a wire from the 4 to the camera. I didn’t put the truck into gear just turned on the battery and pressed my anytime camera button I installed a while back. No combination of wires resulted in the disappearing of the grid lines. I did discover however that the blue wire does not effect the on off function of the anytime button, my guess would be it serves for the reverse function. I also browsed the head unit to see if Turing off the lines was an Intune option but didn’t find anything. I am determined that these can be removed as anything done can be undone IMO...Back to the drawing board. My thoughts now are that they are projected in the actual camera or it’s a software issue.

21C0F3CE-2A7C-455D-9079-3E9534A2ADFD.jpg For $20, it is a great little camera and has wire loops to reverse the image for front or rear camera and to add or remove the guide lines. I have mine in front for offroading when going over a steep hill and I want to see beyond my hood.

So I’m not sure how Toyota does it but I know on most GM models, there is a module (normally the Radio or HMI) that receives the image from the camera, adds the guidelines to the image, and then sends the image+guidelines to the display screen. So you may be SOL if you want to keep the stock camera, unless there is some sort of programming available to remove the guidelines.

As far as I know, the guidelines on the Tacoma’s are built into the camera, like the post I put above. This camera allows you to remove the lines or add them, in addition to reversing the image if you want to put the camera in the back or the front, depending on whether or not you cut the wires.

I believe it’s the camera systems that have the moving lines depending on your steering that are generated by the head unit itself.

When I installed the wiring kit, to move the camera display to the head unit, the lines went away.

I believe it’s the camera itself if you unplug the connector to the camera and put the truck in reverse the screen is blank.... if it were a on the head unit the lines would appear either way in theory

My 2017 had lines when I cut the green wire loop of the camera I posted above by mistake, definately the camera in that case.

Unless the head unit relies on a video signal to turn on the lines. I would guess the lines are generated at the camera.
