Good info to know. Thanks. I'll definitely stick with my stock aluminum wheels until I need new wheels at least. I might try carbon at that point, depending on the price.

What are the best and cheapest ways to haul your ride around without scratches or damage? The post from tacochep looks like it could work.... I have some decent bikes with full xt on the mtb and ultegra on the roadie so...

Lay it down non drive side. You aren't going to screw up metal pedals...

Nope. I see people mixing wheels all the time. Case can be made for both al or carbon front or rear.
I put carbon on the bike with more travel, that I want to be precise.
Al on the bike with less travel that needs as much help as possible soaking up chatter.
Carbon up front will yield a precise steering feel. Carbon out back helps with acceleration.
Al up front helps soak up chatter on shorter travel forks, out back to allow some flex if you have a super stiff rear end or shorter travel.
At least that’s the way it’s been for me.

I haven’t seen any published reviews, aside from the PB review, comparing the new Fuel to the new Santa Cruz Tallboy.

For what it’s worth I really dig my ‘18 9.9 as a do it all bike. The new one being slightly slacker and with 10mm more travel out back, I’m sure it’s a winner.

Get a decent tailgate pad for ~$100. Super convenient and affordable.

Take a towel and lay it over the tailgate with a microfiber cloth between the tailgate and the towel. Place the bike over the tailgate on the towel as you see with the ~100$ pads

My Taco got a new home. First time I’ve been able the park in my own garage. Oh yeah also a few bikes to look at. My daily drivers aren’t in the pick. I think I might have a problem.

Hey guys, first time posting in this thread. Not sure if my post is gonna be the equivalent to the stupid "what's the biggest size tire..." posts we all hate and if it is, my bad but I really need help.

Long long long story short is... I've been riding/racing dirt bikes my entire life but I am now taking a break for a few years and want to get into the mtb world and buy my FIRST actual MTB so I can get a workout and help me stay in shape especially but have some fun.

I've owned Costco bikes before and never used them so I know NOTHING about mountain bikes and their components.
I've been doing research and I now kinda know a little regarding hard tail vs full suspension, 27.5 vs 29's and all those good things.
I'm lost as to what I need and what I should buy. I went to 6 bike shops and It kinda confused me even more so because I can now see that choosing a bike isn't like math, theres no right/exact answer so everyone has a different opinion and is a fanboy of something or they tend to lean to certain brands and setups.
I'll be riding in San Diego, CA I'm 5'9 @190 lbs so an M frame looks to be the best for me. San Diego is little rocky, there wont be anything too steep to go down in my future... thinking of kind enduro-ish/cross country type of terrain riding I guess?

what I need from you? Help me clear my mind.
    Hard tail or full suspension?
    27.5 or a 29er?

Budget is $1500-$2200. Been looking at the Trance 3 29er2020 @$2100 or so and the Specialized Stumpjumper ST Alloy 29 @$1700 or so when it comes to full suspension.
As far as hard tails, been looking at the little more affordable Trek Roscoe 8 @$1500 and the Giant Fathom 2 @$1200.
Are these actually good bikes? I don't want to cheap out on full suspension when I csan get a really nice hard tail for the equivalent.

Not sure what to think, what route to go. My heart is telling me full suspension?
any input is appreciated, THANK YOU!
