I really hope that in all these posts that someone pointed out that both AT and MT are double-OD and 4th is the 1:1 gear. The truck should be kicking down into 4th on grades.

This. The 4.0 only feels like a beast in 1st and 2nd gear. I don't see there being much of a difference between it and the new V6, especially when in the higher gears and towing. The horsepower from the new V6 will make it feel "faster" in normal daily driving unloaded. Towing 6400lbs is asking quite a bit even for a v8 half-ton. Sure it does it, but you're gonna feel it.

The 401 expressway through ontario, the speed limit is 100 kmph(62mph) if you stay in the right lane you are safe however the other left lanes can reach speeds of 80 mph. On county roads the speed limits are either 80 or 90 kmph (50 or 55 mph). Pretty safe driving here mostly although we have or share of assholes here too.

My TT tires are rated for 75. Many larger TT tires are rated for 80+. Personally, I won't tow over 65ish.

Also, my 2016 Tacoma had a higher payload rating than my Tundra. True story lol.

It's a light duty truck. Not designed for towing near its max. If you TT or SC it I'm sure that would make towing its capacity easy. But then you run the risk of getting shoved around. A trucks towing capacity isnt just what the engine will pull, it's what the truck can support on frame, and more importantly stop. At 6500 lbs your already exceeding the weight of the vehicle by 1100 lbs. The tacoma is designed more for offroad, or light bed load work. Like a wood truck, or to haul your camping shit. If you wanna pull a car home on a trailer you picked up in another state you may want to consider a different truck. Your getting mad because your .45 wont pierce armor. That's not it's intended purpose.

I guess I really do need to RTFM

I bet there is a section in there that says

"If intended use of vehicle is anything besides Instagram pics or facebook posts, please go kill yourself."

Naw I 100% am in the wrong

I've said it before and I'm saying it now

I just didnt read the manual before I bought my truck

I usually ask the sales staff for a book to read prior to buying a new truck

This time I went off all half cocked and just looked up the specs on the website

    What a dumbass

I have towed my 8' x 14' landscape trailer with a 56" older lazer Z LHP often and a JD2305 little tractor with bucket on often. It can feel this weight behind me, but does fine and I get decent gas mileage. However, If I towed a larger & heavier load as often I would be in a Tundra without a doubt.

Found this little gem of a thread looking for average mpg's when going to 33"+ tires and regear. Surprised at how many people are using these little trucks for towing. I just moved back "down" to a Tacoma from a Tundra. No way in hell is this 3rd gen a tow worthy vehicle, nothing of any significance for sure. I hear of people towing with Pilots and other light duty 6 cyls and i'm always amazed at what little people know. Fun thread though, and glad to see my IMMEDIATE gas mileage drop with no load isn't out of spec. Just didn't research it beforehand.

I pull a 24’ Albemarle with mine, dry weight on the boat is 5k plus the trailer and if your really adventurous add 120 gal of gas. I have pulled this boat and trailer from FL to out west and back with a F250 diesel and a F150 SC. With the 250 it just wasn’t a issue. With the 150 I just had to drive like I was towing. Now with the Taco it’s needs a few things and some compromises. With brakes on both trailer axles it’s fine around town to the boat ramp and gas station but anything else it will require either slowing down or upgrading the truck, springs or bags, keeping the stock tires and or gears, ov tune and FI, etc... Keep in mind even with a Turbo it will not tow like a full-size truck but like I said compromise, I do more a Taco is better for than a Super Duty.

Yay, a fellow Ontario-in. I tow regularly. 6x12 v nose enclosed (work, maybe 3000lb), couple jetskis (2300) and a couple 4 wheelers (2000). I've towed long enough to know that most people that do tow (especially where I travel in Michigan), with their toys/trailers are unsafe. Some stretches are 75mph there now. Guys will be towing at 90mph. Nuckin futs. I found the sweet spot with the skis/4 wheelers is 68mph. Handles nice in 4th with etc on. Average 16mpg both ways. My last two v8's doing the same thing averaged 13mpg. Can't complain. Can't expect v8 power with a 6.
