First time oil do-it-yourself oil change with this truck for me.

Issue is that after draining old oil and dumping 5 fresh quarts in the dipstick reads about 1-inch above full. When I attempt to drain oil from pan, nothing comes out....

    Steps prior to issue:
-removed oil filter and drained catch pan bellow filter
-replaced oil filter and filled new filter part way up with oil
-removed oil pan plug and let drain for 20 minutes until drips stopped
-put 5qrts of 5W-30 into 'Engine Oil' tube
-ran truck for a few minutes
-checked dipstick and saw that oil was 1-inch above full 'dot'
-removed oil pan plug and nothing came out
-waited 20 minutes, still nothing came out.
    -dipstick still reads too high

    Help would be appreciated.

Maybe Toyota should put a sticker on the pan for the tranny and oil. That way things like this dont happen...

Don't feel bad. It happens a lot. The first time I changed the oil I went right for the tranny plug but caught my mistake in time.:)

Next time ask before you do anything else to your truck, there is a lot of good threads on this site on how to do things. Most of them even involve pictures with step by step instruction. People are really helpful here and that is what makes this website so good!!!!

I don't know what else you can do but simply make sure you have the appropriate amount of tranny fluid back in there and hope for the best. If damage was caused (which we hope isn't the case but let's be realistic) you'll start experiencing it with your tranny not shifting, gears slipping, etc.

Also, you should probably change your engine oil again because if you DIDN'T drain the engine oil, and you put in another 5quarts, you have WAY too much oil in there.

No need to bash anyone over this. It has happened plenty of times in the past.

OP, As mentioned, add what came out of your tranny back into it. Drain the engine of oil, and re fill to the correct 5.5 quarts.
