I'm looking for a shop in the phoenix valley to have my 2nd gen re-geared to 4.88's, Location doesn't matter as I'd be driving down from flag anyways, Just looking for reputable shops that members have had good luck with.

If I lived in Arizona I would only consider the almighty wizard @ZUK for gear/locker installs. He's in Chandler, AZ

Zuk is the only guy to consider, he’s done a few for me. But you’ll have to remove your diffs.

We just had a good experience with Wil at Sierra Expeditions. Highly recommended.

    Edit:
Wil regeared our Powerwagon. Front and rear, 5.13’s.

    P.S.
Did you consider the break in process? Getting back to flag would be rough. I’ve included our break in instructions to give you an idea. First 100 miles is babying it. The climbs north would be worrying. Also, no steady state cruising during the first 100 miles. Wil actually did the first 20 miles for us.

I used @ZUK a month and a half ago for my re-gear (went to 4.56 with my front & rear diffs)...
Like others have said he is GREAT! and very specialized with servicing Toyota Differentials.
I am also in Flagstaff, so I pulled my front and rear thirds myself and delivered them to him in Chandler.

Hey guys, looking to re-gear my 2016 Tacoma to 4.88 Nitro's. I don't have the time or ability to have my truck down for and extended period (daily driver) to pull the gears myself so Zuk is out. Anyone recommend a good shop for re-gear in Phoenix area? Priced at 4WP - they're a little proud. Went to Absolute Offroad, spoke with Jason - nice guy, but flaked out. Never got back to me with a quote, never returned my voicemail asking about it. I hear good things about SDHQ - not out of the question, but I'm in N Phoenix. Appreciate any input!

Thanks, Omega. Hoping there's a competent shop Phoenix somewhere.

I've heard of ZUK years ago. I'm sure that's a solid recommendation. I've used Arizona Differential in the past and been pleased with the results.

Surprised about Absolute - they've done some work for me and I've been happy with both the work done and the price. I prefer to email though.

SDHQ also will do the gears, but I have no first hand experience with them.

AZ Differential Specialists did mine 2 years ago.. was VERY competitive on pricing (I think the cheapest I found em for, even over Zuk), saved me where they could, did an awesome job, and have had zero issues.

What’s the cost to get them regeared if you pull the diffs yourself

Here's a quote I got in April, 2020 from SDHQ for a gear change in my 2017 TRD OR:
    Hey Doug,

Thanks for reaching out to us regarding some gears for your Truck. A gear job would be roughly $3,300. That includes 4.88 Nitro gears, master install kits, REM polishing, synthetic fluids, Hypertech speedo calibrator, hazardous waste charge, install & tax. It would be a week-long job, so drop off on Monday and pick up on Friday. My first availability for a gear job would be the week of April 13th. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks, Have a great day.

Here's a quote I got from @ZUK in June, 2020 for built diffs if I pull them out of my 2017 TRD OR
    Hi Doug,
Nitro is my preferred gear too. The master install kits come with KOYO bearings just like the factory trucks.....but often the seals are generic so I substitute genuine Toyota in place of them at no cost.

Your 2017 has the rear 8.75" elocker and a front 8" clam. At this point in time, I am not rebuilding cores. ECGS offers a great service of core exchange. They do an excellent job of setting up the 3rds to strong specifications. So it can make good sense to go with them depending on the situation.

I understand the downtime issue. Usually, my turnaround is 48 hours per diff. .....as long as I have the Nitro gear package parts and diff on the bench I can have them ready is 48 per.

Here's how it works with me.....Figure out what gears to get...usually 529 is the gear ratio of choice with the 3rd gen Tacos. The autos in the 3rd gens are the AC60F

and the highly desired .58 overdrive means 529 gears rule.

Being a 2017 model means the front clamshell bearings only have 100 miles or so on them so basically new and perfectly fine to reuse. And that can be a large cost savings in the overall regear figure. New seals all around, of course. The rear 8.75" would see new bearings and a genuine pinion seal. The rear usually includes a genuine seal......the front usually needs all 3 seals to be genuine. I absorb those seal costs.

The Nitro gear package is 1448 (basically 2 ring/pinions and 2 master kits)

But getting things "separate"....2- 5.29 ring/pinions and one rear master bearing kit.....
is 1084. A considerable savings there of 360. I upgrade to OEM seals at no additional cost.
    My labor.....
    350 rear 8.75" 3rd
    520 front 8" CLAM

Note.....even in a perfect gear install, the quality gears can make some noise which is supposed to disappear as the offending high spots wear off.
Aftermarket gears are designed more for strength and performance and the gears do spin faster..... so just be aware of that.
My warranty is typically 2 years but is based on common sense break-in and keeping clean gear oil in it. Use a 75W-90 synthetic gear oil.....Valvoline and MobileOne are good ones.

    No multi-discount.......

My rebuilds involve emailing pics of the progress as it happens with a snapshot of the final notes showing the parameters that all is set to.

    Ken

You're local.....the 3rds would have to be removed and brought over to my humble shop in Chandler. To get the ball rolling, Just paypal a partial "commitment" sum to gearinstalls@gmail.com
and I will order the Nitro product.

Doug, thanks for the info. I was going to stop in to talk with them about pricing. My 67 Mustang is currently around the corner from them at Unique Audio.
