Is there no JBL audio with the "premium" audio on the manual transmission TRD off road? I noticed these differences on the Toyota website, manual vs auto.

    MANUAL with premium audio
    [IMG]
    AUTO with premium audio
    [IMG]

The MANUAL truck with premium audio has no JBL logo on the screen....

The AUTO truck with premium audio does have the JBL logo...

Can someone tell me if the MANUAL with premium audio has the JBL, or if not what is the audio package?

    Thank you.

Well what is "premium" about the audio in that package on the manual trans then? Anyone know how it differs from a non-premium audio manual trans truck?

The radio it self it pretty much the same. The JBL system offers limited upgradablity and to most sound "meh"

The non-jbl system does not have a sub, and has worse speakers. The jbl system as ok speakers and a ok sub, but the way its wired makes upgrading the speakers not terribly easy. If I was to get a new 2020, I would make sure I got one without the jbl system.

Honestly coming from someone who has JBL in one Toyota and not in the other the sound is minimal and when you go to upgrade it the JBL becomes a nightmare. Just go regular and put the money into speakers. It will be better even if you keep the stock unit and if you don’t keep the stock unit the sound is better when you get a true equalizer even with the stock speakers.

Basically the premium audio comes with an 8" touchscreen while the [basic] audio package comes with a 7" screen.

Indeed. I sold my premium head unit within a month after buying the truck; replaced the headunit with a Pioneer Avic-w8400 nex, replace all crappy stock toyota speakers with Kickers and also installed a 12" sub.

After our last car we wanted CarPlay. My car I swapped to this and it was a plug and play deal. Very easy and sound was better with stock speakers. Later went to infinity and the sound is great. Our other Toyota with JBL was such a nightmare we went with the beat sonic upgrade and the resolution sucks. For the change in sound I say no, for the headache when you want something different I say hell no. If you never plan to change any audio components and don’t want any other features like wireless car play plus will just replace with the same gear when the speakers go out then JBL isn’t terrible but if you want to change anything or you are chasing a great sound system I would steer clear. Problem is even with the wire harness some stereos cause the JBL amp to overheat and shut off.

Anyone have the almost-$2K Alpine dealer-installed system offered by Toyota? I'm leasing my truck so it would be silly to buy it but I'm curious.

I think the sound the stock system puts out is pretty good anyway. The sound mostly comes from the front.

Mine has the big screen with no sub or amp. Sounds just fine to my ears, honestly I think it sounds better than the JBL system in our ‘16 highlander platinum. I’d rather have the extra storage space behind the seats.
