My radio act like the antenna is unplugged or has a loose connection. Works fine playing CD's. Is this a common problem? What is the best plan of attack?

    Couple things you can do....
    1. Put the stereo on radio and hit the seek forward wor backword but. See if it stops on a channel or just keeps scanning to pick up a station.
    2. Not sure if a 3rd gen has a stand alone mast or not ( 2nd does ) and if so make sure it’s tight. Problem is that the factory cable is usually a couple different extensions that finally make to the radio.
    3. If tight then pull radio and make sure it’s plugged in. If it is, then go to an auto part store or stereo shop ( like Best Buy ) and buy and external antenna. Doesn’t matter what manufacture and can be the cheapest. This is for testing purposes only. Pull the radio and unplug the factory antenna. You WILL need to get an antenna adapter to convert the new antenna to fit the factory radio. Then if you get sound then you know it’s the cable or antenna somewhere in the vehicle.if you still don’t get stations then....
    4. Buy a new or used radio
    5. If you have an aux or usb, then just download some radio apps on the phone and play that way.

    OEM radio or aftermarket?
If aftermarket radio, did you install the radio?
Are you the original owner of the truck?

My guess is you are not the original owner, there is an aftermarket radio that is, or used to be in the truck, and the antenna is not connected to the rear of the radio because that's an easy thing to miss when hot swapping the radio in a truck you're about to trade in. The other explanation is corrosion ate your antenna under the mast.

    Umm...
I didn’t really read or see in the original post if it was aftermarket or factory. If factory still steps I mentioned. If aftermarket, either unplugged or the antenna adapter wasn’t used most likely.

Thanks for the replies. I'm at least the second owner, bought 2 years ago with 88000 miles on the clock, 108000 miles now. Factory unit. Corrosion seams like the most likely culprit, I live in Ohio and they salt the roads alot, plus it got drove to Morton salt for several months. Just last week I heard something knocking around in the bed, got to work looked in there and one bed pocket cover with the locking tabs rusted away so much that they couldn't catch the mating surface.
So, how do I remove the antenna to check this out? How does the antenna terminate at the radio?
