Sorry! I missed this post. Good looking Taco.

I did see a recent post or thread by someone that was struggling with the front panel flapping one the highway. They were using the hook tape and it kept coming off. It was recommended in the thread to use the snaps. Those folks found that the flapping wore down the paint on the cab.

Mine has not even shuddered at speeds just over 70. I would use something back there for the sake of the paint? Although, bare metal probably does pretty well in Gilbert! :D

Thanks! I love Plexus, but I would stay away from it on clear vinyl unless you get a recommendation from Softopper or other convertible roof sources. The stuff is amazing, but I would worry that it would cloud or react with the clear stuff over time.

Good question, but I would worry about the adhesive over time there. I know they have changed over time, but way back when the first clear bras were out, I saw the stuff yellow for cars parked outside.

I have also seen well cared for vinyl windows last a very long time. I would just go that route, if I can figure out what they use.

Check out some jeep forums :crapstorm: they have lots of experience with this type of window and you will find many varying opinions on how to clean them. The 210 hasn't lead to any clouding for me, but I don't have any experience with plexus.

Also, Bestop markets a kit for their toppers:

I was thinking the Miata gang would be more rational. No need to jump into the jeep fray.

I like the sounds of 210. I've used Plexus for years on polycarbonate (motorcycle and paintball visors) and have no worries there. The fear for vinyl might be irrational?

Yeah I’ll need the snaps in the front. Got some movement out of the front today. My front flap is super long, I’ll have to tie into composite bed itself.

Interesting. If you want to tie it into the bed rail, setting some snap buttons is pretty easy. You can get a package at fabric stores.

That's true. Just the grommet version?

The ones that I have are very similar to grommets setters. I have those also.

I install snaps when the Velcro wears out on my riding gear.

    Hey, @dilbert .

I found confirmation for Plexus on vinyl windows. I don't know why, but I am surprised.

I also edited my earlier post as alcohols and detergents like dish soap are said to be bad for them.

I will grab both of the products that you linked and will use some car wash soap and water in a spray bottle for general cleaning.

    Thanks!

I've been using Sprayway glass cleaner, which contains alcohol, on the back window between washings. Then I polish with the 210 (it makes it stay cleaner longer) I guess I should find something to use instead of the Sprayway.

I always mean to try that stuff out on glass since it has a cult-like following. Didn't Costco stop carrying it for a short while and folks freaked out? I just grab the isopropyl two pack. We have about four or five sprayers stashed around the house. I use it like Gus Portokalos uses Windex. :D

Alcohol and water mix for the clear vinyl or the colored portion?

It looks like it is not good for both. It was said that alcohol dries out the plasticizers that keep the vinyl flexible. It is especially bad for the windows as it will fog them over time. That sucks because I used that on everything except flat screen TVs. I have seen vinyl windows on old convertibles that looks great after 15yrs or more, so I might as well do it right? I do get a pretty good view out that back.

So, non-detergent (car wash) soap for general cleaning, 303 once in a while for preservation, and 210 or Plexus for polishing the windows and will help keep the dust off (antistatic).

@tonered Received today! I’m a Taco noob though and had no idea you had to seal the bed, thanks for the info in your previous post and the search function found some great info. So ordering tailgate weather strip and sealing the front upper corners with some rubber of some sort. I won’t be camping in the rain so will leave underneath the upper composite bed cover pieces and cubby pieces as is .... for now.
