I am the original owner of a 2014 DCSB TRD Off-Road Tacoma. Just rolled over 28,000 miles when I started to notice a wind noise coming from the driver side front window. The wind noise seemed to come out of nowhere as my truck had never made this noise before. Not to mention, the seals around the window had not been messed with since I got my tint put on around 1,000 miles. The noise sounded like static coming from a TV and only presented itself after accelerating to 45 mph or greater. I also noticed that the faster I went, the louder the static noise presented itself.

Immediately I started diagnosing the problem. I found a road with very little to no traffic and got up to 60 mph so the wind noise would be present. First I wanted to make sure that the window was rolled all the way up. After confirming that the window could not be seated any better in the seal, it was time to determine exactly where the wind noise was coming from. I got up to speed and leaned close to the window to listen and find the loudest spot of the static. After finding exactly where the noise was coming from, I started pushing outward on the window to see if added pressure on the window would reduce the noise of the static sound. To my surprise, I didn’t have to apply much pressure before I had a quite ride again. This was a relief because it seemed like a simple fix. Below are the steps that I took to fix the wind noise issue I was experiencing. Hope this helps! If you have any questions, let me know.

    Parts Needed:
    - 3M Exterior Attachment Tape (1/4 inch x 1.66 yards)
    6.jpg

    - 3M Black Super Weather-strip and Gasket Adhesive (5 oz)
    7.jpg

    - Rubbing Alcohol
    5.jpg

    - Rag
    - Painters Tape

    Steps:
    1. Roll down the window and pull the window seal away from the door. The window seal is not attached in any way so it should pull away from the door pretty easy.

    2. Using the rubbing alcohol and rag, clean the area where the seal is seated in the door. Make sure the area is dry and free of debris before proceeding to the next step.

    3. Take the 3M Tape and attach it to the lip of where the window seal attaches to the door.

    4. Remove the backing to the 3M double sided tape to expose the other side of the tape. Push the window seal back into the door.

Note: The part of the seal that wraps around the lip of the door where the tape is located will need to be pulled away from the door while you push the seal back into the door. This will stop the seal from scrunching up the tape. I would recommend starting at one corner of the window and working your way around.

    5. With the window seal back in its original position, slide the tip (not code) of the adhesive tube between the exterior part of the seal and the door itself. Apply a thin constant bead of adhesive between the seal and the door itself.

    6. Use painters tape to make sure the exterior part of the seal sits flush against the door so there are no gaps when the adhesive dries.

    7. Roll the driver’s side window up and shut the door. I left the door closed and the tape on for 12 hours. That is plenty of time to dry down here in Florida. Especially when your vehicle is out baking in the sun.

Sorry for the sideways pics. I can't get them to flip upright.

Update: My fix has been in place for almost 2 months now. Drivers side window seems to be fixed. It is not making anymore noise. Truck has also went through a couple heavy rain storms and no leaks from the windows.

Thank you for this write up. I'm getting this same issue after installing my EGR window visors. So annoying.
