Trade it into the Toyota dealer let them deal with the shitty frame.

    Then I’d have to get a Toyota. I don’t want a 3rd gen. I’d consider a rav4 but won’t give this dealer a dime.

Yeah, I wanted another Tacoma just not the frame issues. Now pissed at Toyota and don’t trust they fixed this, but would probably do business with the second dealer (Cain) I was talking with.

Just got truck back this evening from frame replacement and $0 cost to me. :bananadance:
They worked with me to reinstall the rcd lift, front and rear steel bumpers and the winch. They even cut the welded on rock rails off the old frame. They left out the front diff because they would not cut the new frame, which I was ok with. I left with the new crossmember and lcas that they did not install due to the lift. Trailered the truck home and will commence the cutting next weekend
I have to admit when I took the truck in I was ready to do battle :fistbump:due to all the aftermarket parts and mods the truck had. It actually turned out to be the most pleasant experience I have ever had with any dealer service. Service manager and tech were awesome to work with.
:hattip: to Palmiero Toyota in Meadville, PA.

How the fuck do you have a modified frame and get it replaced and I damaged mine due to the rust and they (Toyota corporate) tell me to fuck off? Good for you and make sure you keep doing business with that service manager.

Yeah I hate dealing with lawyers though. Should ping the guy where you went and see if he was just ignoring the rules to help you out. Wouldn’t want to get someone that’s being reasonable under the microscope. Either way, my original dealer was able to blackball me and it stuck. Thanks guys, I literally bought the most expensive Tacoma on the lot and paid then to put leather in it... it’s really nice. Why do you think I’m so pissed?

I can't blame you one bit. If I were in your shoes I'd be livid spitting mad causing a scene in the service dept and probably taken away by the police. I at one point raised my voice when the dealer initially denied me. I collected myself and went home and proceeded to leave a shitty review anywhere I could on social media. 2 days later they called me back and wanted me to bring it in for a corporate regional tech to inspect. The corporate tech is what got me approved when the dealer said no. After that the dealer tried to act like my buddy and where nice to me for almost the rest of the process until they tried to give me my truck back running like crap and with more cel codes present than I dropped it off with.

If his truck’s frame refusal is in the manufacturer’s system as a warranty refusal, put there by a regional rep, there’s no way for any dealer to legitimately reverse that. I had the same situation with a Dodge Dakota engine that my purchased-at dealer and the area factory rep refused to good faith warranty. I asked and then appealed, they refused. The area rep was actually very nasty and a rude c-sucker.
(It had a 36 month, 36K warranty and the engine grenaded at 15 MPH at 37 months and 17K on it)
A different, friendly dealer did a work around the refusal but it wasn’t kosher if Chrysler/Dodge ever found out what he did.

I'm not sure whether I should have started my own thread or just add to this, so I decided to just add it here. I have a 2007 Tacoma TRD Off-Road that I purchased new from a local dealer. This truck was taken to this dealer for everything that's ever been needed, except one time for new tires. I had the frame-spray coating done at there recommendation in May of 2015. My most recent visit was in mid-October 2019, where I was told my frame was shot and I needed a new one, that would not be covered by the replacement program.

Funny thing is, I was there for service in January 2019 and June of 2019. They're trying to tell me that at that time, there was no sign of issues and that all my rusting occurred since then. Even more interesting is that my eligibility to get a covered frame replacement ended towards the middle-end of July 2019. Anyone else have their suspicions? I spoke with the dealership and they said there's nothing they can do about it. I basically accused them of either purposely not reporting the issue to me in January or June or having techs that are not performing a proper multi-point inspection like they do with every service. I was assured that there was not issue and reason from replacement in June. I called corporate and they basically told me that there's nothing they could do. The dealerships are independently owned and operated. I'd have to work with them to convince them to fess-up and eat the costs of the replacement.

I'm not stupid enough to think this all happened within a few months. Needless to say, I'm disgusted, pissed-off and furiously trying to figure out how to proceed. The concerning part is that if I were to get it replaced somehow, how the hell do I trust them to do this proper, without malcontent and wanting to damage something else on purpose.

    :eek::pray:

That is terrible and I'd agree with you that the rust condition pictured did NOT just happen since June. I'm guessing you bought the truck sometime towards the end of July 2007? If the date of first use was prior to today's date in 2007, yes the warranty period has expired. I'm not sure what your course of action should be.

Welcome to the club. The best suggestion I can tell you is complete blasphemy, but I’ve test driven a Colorado. That didn’t happen over night. Perhaps the frame just hadn’t reached the level of being “failed” in July. If you did that much business with dealership, they should have been looking out for you more. In my case, they got limited shop time from me but plenty of business at the parts counter. Sorry couldn’t give you anything more than sympathy.

Thanks. What really sucks is that I was planning on this to be my last vehicle. What's even worse is that I can't sell it and can't trade it in. It's going to be a waiting game to have a major failure while I'm on the road driving. Not good and I'm not happy.

Working my way up the chain, but I'm not hopeful of getting a satisfactory resolution.

I guess what bothers me the most is the attitude from Toyota that they did us a favor in extending the warranty to the 12-years.

My contention is that I purchased this truck with the intent of it being my last vehicle purchase. What I got instead was a $32k soon to be pile of garbage that won't last 13-years.

Yup. Or in my case an 11yr old, believe me I know. But according Toyota our frames are just a fragile as an infotainment screen. Hahah.... no, I’m not kidding. That was the analogy used from Toyota Corporate, not a dealer. And Im only misusing the analogy slightly. My surface rusting really accelerated after the CRC was applied, but the boxed in area of the frame up front was never done. I say get it done so you can stay eligible, but powerwash it off and put fluid film or something known on. But I’m not a rust prevention expert or I wouldn’t be whining.

So, I haven't had a chance to read all the posts concerning this, but I take it you're truck was impacted as well. What's the current status? Do you still have the truck? Can you point me to a place that I can read about your unfortunate situation?

The short version is I made a hole due to rust, but since it wasn’t 100% natural it doesn’t count. Ok, kinda BS but whatever. Except that since I made one myself that disqualified my frame completely. So now that I have one that naturally occurred I’m own even though the truck was manufactured in 2/08.
