Just changed Transfer case fluid, now I've got a problem...

New truck owner of a 2015 TRD pro with 35K. I decided to change the Transfer case fluid and filled until it started to drain out. Now when I put the truck in 4High to test, I noticed when taking a tight turn while baking out of a parking space the the wheels wouldn't move, only if I take a less aggressive turn will the wheels move again.

I've only had the truck a few months and haven't use 4 wheel drive very often this summer, but I don't recall the steering radius being this restricted in 4High and certainly I don't recall the truck acting like this. I used 75w-90 mobil one oil.

When filling the Transfer Case do you fill until it over flows or measure out 1.1 Qts. ??
I guest I can drain and refill making sure to re-measure 1.1 Qts. I thought I read to fill until it leaks out, but this is my first go around with the Taco so this could be a classic newbie mistake.

    Thanks.

Were you driving in 4HI on pavement?

This may be the problem. Dry pavement and tight turns are not good.

Yes. leaving store I put the truck in 4Hi and then decided to back out of the parking lot and drive home which is less than a mile. Wanted to test before driving to work tomorrow, Work is a much longer commute.

3x don't go into 4 anything while on pavement. Only loose sand, gravel, dirt, mud, etc. 4 anything on asphalt or concrete will cause binding no matter what.

Find a gravel road and test it there.

Thank you for the quick responses. First time truck owner, so good to know. The other 5 times I've used 4 wheel drive I was off road in the woods so didn't experience this.

So when filling the transfer case do you measure out 1.1Qts. or fill until it drains out?

Yeah....... Don't do that. You'll grenade your front end. CVs will get destroyed and the diff will get destroyed as well. What you need do do is go down a STRAIGHT road in 4HI and drive about 45 mph for a couple of miles so the diff and transfer case get lubed up

I just fill till it comes out the fill hole on the transfercase, transmission, and front/rear differentials. Haven't had an issue yet.

Unless you’re trying to do circles with the wheel cut all the way or tight turns with high throttle you’re not going to grenade your differential in 4WH

You are correct on the amount 1.1qts and yes you can fill till fluid comes out the top plug on the transfer case. Diffs are front 1.6qts and rear 3.1qts if you get to them all same 75w-90. Tacomas are part time 4wd as others stated as the transfer case does not have a differential/limited slip clutches to split front and rear axles turning at different speeds. Only 4wds that have an "auto" 4wd setting have the ability to run on paved streets due to the ability in the transfer case to vary front and rear speed/power output. Of course AWD vehicles are full time 4wd and always split power many based on wheel slippage and computer control.

FYI: The e-locker can only be engaged in 4Lo which to engage you must put the transmission in N so the transfer case can shift to a lower gear. Then when in 4Lo you push the rear locker button it may not engage until you put in gear and began to go turning the steering wheel side to side to get the rear axle splines to align with the locker collar. Sometimes it goes right in other times it takes a few shakes. When you do engage the e-locker you will see the ABS, ATRAC, and engine management shut off as designed so you can dig out without the Tacomas ECU firing ABS and ramping down the throttle due to wheel spin. The owners manual kind of describes this but not well.

    Lifted
You fill it until it drains out the fill hole on top.
