Anyone have any ideas as to why my 120v outlet in the bed will not power anything? I have never used it since I bought the truck in 2014. And, of course, the warranty has expired. With the truck running, both lights on the inverter switch light up momentarily, then go and stay off. No other symptoms. Maybe a fuse or relay, and where? Hoping it might be something simple to save a trip to the dealer. Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you tried plugging anything in it? They're only 400w so that won't run to big of things. I'd open the Manuel and start checking fuses

I would plug something small into it, like a nightlight or a small lamp. Have someone verify if it lights up when you push the button in the cab. If only momentarily it could mean the inverter is seeing a short-circuit on it's output and/or going into thermal or protective overload. I think the actual inverter itself is in the cab, so a 120VAC cable runs to the bed, I believe.

It's actually 400 watt max with the engine running, truck not moving. And 100 watts with truck in motion

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on my original post below. The inverter will not activate under any circumstances and the lights on the dash switch only remain on momentarily. I would think that one of the lights in the switch would remain on, if it was working as designed. And possibly hear the cooling fan of the inverter running? The receptacle in the truck bed has nothing plugged in to it while switch is depressed. I checked with both a DVOM and a small trouble light. The light didn't work and there is never any voltage available. Again, yesterday was the first time I've ever tried to use it since I bought the truck new.

+1 I had the same symptom and that was the culprit.

Sorry, haven't had a chance to even think about this for several weeks now. All else tests ok, so I suspect the AC/DC relay is the problem. Where is it and is it clearly marked? I would probably have to test by substitution. Anyone have an idea how much they cost?

I couldn't find the right post for this so I will ask it here. Do all 2nd gen Tacoma's come with a factory inverter between the two front seats? I'm thinking about installing the 110 v bed outlet and can't find anywhere if there is a inverter in my tacoma. I have a 2014 Tacoma Tss, Pre-runner, Sr5. 4-cylinder.

Only the TRD sport and TRD offroad came with the inverter. It's too much work and expense to install the factory inverter in a truck that didn't come with it. If you want an inverter, install an aftermarket inverter that does much more than 400 watts.

Factory inverter also came in my 014 Limited. After converting it to run 400w all the time - I also added an inside outlet so you can use it in a dry environment. A very useful change.

The 1 post wonder that bumped this 2 year old thread is most likely not coming back.

What have you used the power outlet for? Seems like not much amperage to make coffee

Used mine with a long extension cord and led trouble lights - retrieving a neighbor lady's car from an off road excursion. Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to miss a Javelina - but this rescue involved deep sand, cactus and other difficulties.
Also worked to provide lighting while troubleshooting my son's garage electrical panel.
