Anyone in here interested in winters?

Will have mine for sale soon. 265 70 16. Nokian hakkapelietta r2. 10/32 of 12/32 tread left. Only been on for 1.5 season.

Doubtful my brother in law will want them so if he doesn't they're for sale.

Would anyone happen to have an old cat back or tail pipe lying around you don't need anymore? Crushed my tail pipe on a rock. DCSB.

 

Leave the tailpipe off. It will crush again if you off road.

 

I want to do something tho so it isn't dumping right out the muffler.

Holy shit what a difference!

And that is just on the road, (well Hamilton roads) rear end holds onto pot holed road even when stomping on the gas, same spot with old shocks, the rear end was hopping and jumping all over the place.
Cornering on a really baffed out section that was dangerous with the old shocks at 50km was not even noticeable!

Ride is smoother and more controlled than even when there was 500lbs in the back ...

Oh I can't wait for the fronts to go on now... lol gonna be like driving a sport tuned Cadillac.

 

what's your plan on keeping them clean? They will look like crap after this winter no matter what you spray, I heard wrapping in 3m and then another clear coat wrap can prolong the looks...

 

31:55 is what happens the first time you take that diff cover on a rocky trail. Here we are changing hexagonal drain plugs to round ones to avoid snagging, while Banks adds large scoops.

When I changed the rear diff oil at 800 km, I changed the fill plug to the round type with allen drive (same P/N as the front diff fill plug):

 

Banks covers are for the mall.

 

It looks well-engineered for pavement queens (towing, repeated dragstrip launches), just not for the way we use our trucks.

 

You'll need to remove them again when the leafs come in.

When they are in "permanently", saturate the bypass and compression adjuster knobs with Fluid Film, lest they become non-adjustable after one winter...

Congrats regardless - they look as good as they perform.

Going to put some caps over the adjusters packed with grease. then.

ACF-50 and Fluid Film.

ACF-50 is better than anything else for Zinc and Aluminum alloys, after all it was developed for aircraft wings and frames.
The Fluid film is just an easy way to add more water spray protection.
The combination just collects a fine layer of grime on top but heavy stuff does not stick well.
So I'm not worried at all about corrosion.
Just have to use a gallon of de greaser in the spring,
Then re-spray with Carpro Reload and ACF-50 to make em all shiny again.

I might still paint them TBH, I'm de-chroming and blacking out the truck, now I'm bolting on these big shiny things...

Lol wrapping shocks never entered my mind..
Yeah use some Xpell commercial wrap then hit em with a heat gun to "heal" all the scuffs...

I also want to find some gravel shields, trying to figure out if the Fox ones will work...

Might even get some winter shock covers like these in case they start getting pitted from gravel and shit ..



The hose to the reservoir is cloth covered though...

That needs some creative thinking...

 

Lol, that's a lot of spraying make sure those rubber hoses up to the task!
I would advice against those socks, they trap the moisture and dirt inside in our climate.
I think OME sells gravel shields for BP-51s check those.

The wrapping idea isn't new, I've seen it done on sports car and trucks, it protects the shock body in the winter and you can peel it off and wrap in a different colour if you get bored.

On the bright side of the leafs not in...
it now has me doing my small lift in 3 stages...
makes it easier for problem solving and seeing how each piece affects the overall "system"...
well that's what I tell me-self...

Oh these will be well slathered with Fluid film when the snow flies, and ACF-50 when I get home from work tomorrow.

I wish those adjuster knobs had come with caps... oh well it's fun to hunt for little things like that.

Yeah I figured socks would be a pita, I was thinking about them just for mech protection when the wheel wells are packed with ice.
I can see now how they would trap grit inside that would just be rubbing the shock lick sandpaper... bad..

Lol the old gearheads I play with are in two "flavors" ,
showcars or rat-rods,
so winter is either garage time or adding to the patina time...
I can hear Boris saying with a thick Russian accent;
