I usually have someone else use thier thumb and press around my neck in the area where the pain is. Once you have located 'the head', have them push thier thumb into that spot as hard as they can or unitl you pass out. Have them move it around while it is pressed in. Do it for a few secs then release. Wait a few secs and again. Keep going until you get all the spots.

a month shy of 10 years for an update to this neck topic, its the only neck topic in this section :notsure:
yes, strained neck here while under the truck for nearly 7 hours yesterday, thank goodness it was too cold out to get back under it today
have had neck problems though for 20 or so years so its nothing new, just something i try to avoid when possible

    thanks Troy
i just went to the chiropractor on Saturday, I go once a month
its a long story but I am not used to doing this kind of truck maintenance on the ground, haven't done this sort of stuff since i was in my teens/early 20s
my tempur pedic pillow helps at night but I am getting stiffer necks as i age i guess (late 40s)

about 3 hours neck deep under truck yesterday doing slightly hazardous work and this morning is not a good morning with every little vertebrae cracking in the cervical spine
i need to have my doctor xray it again to see if its gotten worse from the last xray about 2 years ago, but probably not much they can medically do for me, i am not into taking prescription drugs

I crashed on a street bike when I was 18 at over 100 mph. Will be 56 next month and now my bones let me know how stupid I was as a kid. I still ride dirt bikes and wheel with the best of them, but now I use everything from Acupuncture, Braces, Chiropractors, Doctors, to Meds for pain. Pain is something that we all deal with in life. It will always come and go, deal with it anyway that makes it go away. Sometimes just a cold one will make you feel a hell of alot better. See you on the trails and stay young forever my TW friends.

i do not think it appropriate to have 'a cold one' while operating an abrasive blast gun with safety gear on!

@CrippledOldMan, you are a fellow 1st gen guy with spine issues, what do you suggest?

So I finally got to have deep tissue massage again, the first time since February before she was on vacation and then big government comes shutting her practice down because of some virus bs, wear a mask wash your hands c'mon man how hard is it, you know!
The Chiropractor was able to keep servicing me once a month throughout the virus pandemic

This is essential crap I am trying to manage and keeps getting worse it seems the older I get and now the stuff I am forced to have to do compounds the situation
I did not have a major crushing headache this morning but I may tomorrow
This past week however I had to do inspection under my old truck for a couple of hours on my shoulder, the next day I could barely touch my chin to my chest without great efforts and could barely drive in

Time to beg for the oxy?
I do not use drugs other than steroids for my eye when it's needed

tried the icepack behind the neck and upper shoulders last night
    no headache today but
all during the day and right now i can not touch my chin to my chest and it took great effort to even turn my head to the side and check the mirrors while driving in
i shall try another half hour session with ice pack tonight
what to do what to do...

you won't like it but, the best thing I have done for my tight/strained neck is cold showers

I also have a heated massager, helps, but it mostly just takes time for me to feel better. For the past year, I get a crunchy/cracking sound sometimes when I turn my head left and right. I had x-rays on it years ago and the doc just said that I am gonna have neck problems when I get older. Today I actually feel pretty good, who knows what will show up next week.

Head went through the windshield in a multi rollover. Hence, neck pain.
