Have a 2020 Sport on the way. I live in snow country so I want to get dedicated snow tires mounted on their own wheels. (Probably Blizzaks, they are great on the wife's Subaru. I don't plan on doing any crawling, I live over a mile from the nearest paved road and that is not usually plowed for several days after a storm. I just need traction to get out of my house, store and work) My question is about changing out the wheels/TPSensors. My wife's subaru is a pain to swap. I get it done free at the tire shop but always have to return because the reset never works right the first time. Can you reset the the TPS from the entune dash when you swap out wheels? Thanks

I have a 5 wheel tire rotation setup and every time I go in I have to have Discount Tire check each wheel with their machine and reprogram the current TPMS codes into the ECU.

If your question is removing your current TPMS and putting them on new wheels. That should work fine because they’re the same codes.

If you’re getting a second set of sensors for your new wheels, then someone will have to reprogram it for you or you need your own program.

I just went through this. New set of wheels with snow tires put on yesterday, and I had to return today to have the sensors rescanned because something didn't "take" the first time around. They told me Toyotas can be "finicky" due to sensor changes in 2016. Not sure I believe that. I think it is more to piss poor training/incompetence where I got the wheels/tires.

Can anyone recommend a scanner that works without the headaches so I don't have to go back everytime I change wheels?

    You need the reprogram tool.

Thanks. Been looking at the Autel, and will probably go with that. Two vehicles with 2 sets wheels/tires each so will come in handy.

I don't think that Toyota is the only one. Like I said my wife's Subaru is guaranteed at least one trip back to Discount Tires. I definitely want to get a set of wheels for the winter tires. With the separate wheels, I get them swapped for free; remounting them costs me $75 each spring and fall.

Thanks for all of the responses, at least now I know.

I bought some Blizzak winter tires today at Discount Tires and had them mounted on a spare set of stock rims so I can swap them out myself as needed without dealing with the madhouse at the tire shop when it starts snowing. I asked the tech about cloning the TPMS sensors and he said no problem he can do that with his scanner. No need to buy a special set of sensors. It took him about 2 minutes to scan my existing tires/sensors and transfer the codes to the new sensors - no charge. I pushed the reset button below the steering wheel for a few seconds and once I drove a few minutes they read just fine. No need for a scan/reset tool from now on when I swap tires each season.

I use an Autel TS508. Works great!

I use it on my wife's Subaru and my Tacoma.

Here's a tip though. DON'T CLONE YOUR SENSORS!!!

I cloned my sensors at first and it gave me such a headache. My truck would detect the sensors on my other wheels two houses away from my house. So my TPMS light would come on as I was driving down my street, and it would come up with an error when I would be leaving my house.

I picked up my TRD sport last Friday. My dealer had a set of 17 x 7.5" takeoffs that the parts gal, was "pretty sure" came off of a Tacoma. I got them for $200 which is a great price. I plan on going to discount tires for the Blizzaks because I have a store credit plus they are cheaper. Before I get them mounted can somebody please confirm that they will fit? My truck is in a detail shop for PPF today. BTW the discount tire guy said I should get the TPMS from Toyota because none of his aftermarket stuff is updated to include 2020 toyotas yet and wasn't sure if they would work or not.
