I'll draw up a diagram. It basically uses the same setup I make to add an elocker to a truck.

Okay here's how you make it work without the 4X4 ECU. You'll need one of these switches (front) http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/toyota-e-locker-switches.html.
Wire it up like this to your ADD actuator.
(Thank you Low Range Off-Road for the original E-locker diagram I modified)

The rheostat I referred to above.

If the wire colors don't match up let me know. I don't have a 2001 wiring diagram. Only a 2000 and 2003.
Did you locate your 4x4 ecu?

Yes, 4x4 ECU was under ashtray behind lower center cover panel. Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.

Cool. Those wire colors are at the actuator. Tell me if your colors match up. Then i can tell you the wire colors at the 4x4 ecu. You can tie the switch wires in there instead of running wires outside to actuator.

Yes, thats what I did on the 4x4 indicator to get it working. ECM is gone, just using the old plug as a junction box. Thanks again
