    Hi all,

A bit of an odd question...Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the knob (the part at the end you rotate to shuffle through your light options) on the light stalk?

Mine is from a 2019 Tacoma with the OFF/DRL/Parking light/headlight options.

I cannot tell how it is held onto the unit, and have not removed the stalk from the truck. If it is possible to remove it, my goal is to modify it to prevent it from rotating to the "OFF" position in order to pass Canadian DRL requirements.

    Thanks,
    Matt

It does not answer your question, but I know someone who imported a USA Audi, and they simply wired the DRLs on the Audi to a circuit that was always on with the ignition. After the car passed inspection, they put the wiring back to factory. Something to consider.

If I can't figure out a hardware option with the light stalk, your suggestion is my backup plan. I would prefer not to touch any wiring if possible.

Order a new Canadian headlight switch. If it is law, then a switch for the Canadian market should have the option that is required.

There are videos on YouTube that help. It was intimidating to remove the steering wheel. After you did it, its not bad. Make sure you mark the location of the steering wheel before you remove it- for wheel alignment

    Just an idea.

^^This. I’ve seen it done on other vehicles with one jumper wire in the fuse block. Fastest, easiest and cheapest option to pass DRL inspection.....

The Canadian truck switch has an Off position. The DRL is through a module. A rewire would be easier than modifying the light switch. But if you want to try modifications to the switch, then there is an end cap that will break when removed that will reveal a screw or a pressed in pin on the knob. Remove that and you will have access to the switch mechanism. This may be a one time thing. The switch isn't really serviceable. A quick rewire may be more reversible.

Why don't you just leave the light stalk setting on DRL and not turn it off? It will all turn off when you cut the truck off anyway.

Because it would fail an inspection if you are able to turn off DRL when the truck is driving.

I have considered a Canadian light stall (as I have a 17 Cdn Tacoma I am selling), but it has 4 positions just like my US Tacoma. I’m not confident it would work.

I figured out techstream but the DRL option won’t enable DRL in the “OFF” position, only (to my disappointment) enabling the DRL on/off in the “DRL” position.

It looks like my best bet is doing a simple DRL to ignition rewire. I find some time to figure this out!

ON @ IGN, OFF when Headlamps selected. Fused IGn source are 2: Battery Charger Relay, pin 2, Inverter Relay, pin 2.
