Why did you buy this, when yours should still be under warranty?

Dealer wants $150.00 to update the map card. I got this as a gift to update the maps. Almost 2 years worth of updated maps as my card inside is a 2017 card. Truck was bought in Feb of 2018.

Why wouldn't it? It's an updated map card that someone gave him as a gift.

I have no reason to believe it won't. If he says it's a seamless swap out I'm interested in buying one myself. Lots of new streets in my area.

Not to thread jack but in regards to the map cards, does anyone know of a way to install a map card into the ENTUNE premium HU that would display all or most of the forest service trails and roads? I do a LOT of hunting this time of year and while yes I do have forest service top maps that have the roads and trails on them it would be nice to have the ability to have it displayed on the in dash HU. If it was able to show topo detail as well that would be even better.

Possible that it might not work and that it may even screw up the GPS system. Most manufacturers of these system use special protocols in their software to keep it proprietary. Its a $$$$ thing. They don't want someone selling a product that will work for less price.

The problem is the proprietary systems. Different map makers don't want to purchase the programing rights to be able to manufacture their products with the correct software for use in different systems.

I just spent $500 on purchasing someone else's ET Premium HU and a compatible bezel just for the built-in GPS unit.

At least you can update the old head units I think the new ones for 2020 rely on remote signaling and you need a subscription too.

So you guys are saying taht we cant update our maps ourselves? Im thinking to update my map as well because theres one time i set a destination and it took me to a different address, took a uturn since its wrong and destination changes to the right one. I didnt change the address, just made a uturn and it corrected itself.

So what I’ve learned about TW is a lot of you all love the Entune system mapping. That’s cool and I respect you; a difference in opinions is healthy in this world.

But here’s my take - today I would never imagine paying an additional subscription for maps, let alone a fee to update a map in this antiquated system. I much prefer google maps for car play and live road updates and map updates. My experience with the entune mapping was inaccurate routing, not finding destinations, and just cumbersome to enter destinations.

For those who claim it helps on forest roads and the like, how often are you really on those roads? As someone who does lots of back country backpacking, I’ve never had an issue downloading an offline map on my phone and using the phones GPS when there is no signal. Again free and up to date maps.

But different strokes for different folks I suppose.

You simply swap out the old SD card for a new one. I have done it on my 2015 4Runner. Here is a 2015
    Highlander vid. Pretty similar.

EDIT: I did this with a SD card from Toyota (with a coupon) not from Amazon.
