I have the tent and bed bars ordered, will still be acquiring other needed supplies along the way up until our trip which is now looking like it will be planned for the first 2 weeks in june. We will drive straight through to nebraska, maybe grab a hotel after a long day of driving, get up early and make the 4 hour drive the rest of the way across nebraska to our first camp spot. Then continue on up toward yellowstone, glacier and back through south dakota hitting a couple other places along the way. Can anyone tell me for sure about soft sided tents and camping in national parks. I have been warned on here about the possibility of not being able to camp in certain areas because of tent camping but have not been able to find any information on NPS website for some reason. Is it just a day by day thing based off bear activity? or do they completely keep tents out of certain areas? We will be breaking in the set up and getting a feel for whats needed and whats not between now and then with a Missouri and and Colorado camping trip planned in august.

Make CG reservations early there, I secured a spot luckily driving up. Also, look into places on the edge of the Park where showers can be used. Been backpacking in the backcountry twice. Stayed at a KOA CG one night when weather went south, hot shower, laundry, ice cream.
I'm 65, still sleep on the ground.

I love that cargo system, just couldn't stomach the price for everything right now. How's it working out so far? We had the same issue with our tent - they cancelled the order the first time because they said it wasn't in stock. Dealt with customer service for a while and then finally got a confirmation so we drove out to Sacramento. Luckily it was there, but another guy was waiting for the same tent so we got out of there pretty quick.

It's arriving Friday and I'll have it installed same day if it comes early enough. I used to have a Weatherguard tool box in the bed and it was a pain in the ass getting in and out of the bed so this system will work way better for general storage imo.

Lots of ideas here OP, from budget to thousands of dollars. Here are a few videos from a highly experienced Aussie 4 wheeler/camper that should help round everything out.

Regarding towing vs not towing a trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhXsAWZXF-Q

Regarding camping gear and overall advice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkJX8_5GfJw

Hope these help! I'm not affiliated with Ronny Dahl (the channel owner), but he has among the most extensive material and experience with these topics and others. Cheers

Dude Ronny and his crew are the best. Since 2015 when I got my 2012 Tacoma I've been watching his channel and it's just gotten better and better over the years. I have been leeching all the information I can for my trip from his channel. I also highly recommend it to others! :broccoli::broccoli:

Nice truck! How are you liking the Leitner Designs ACS so far? at 65 lbs weight with a dynamic load rating of 500 lbs, static load rating 1000 lbs is the best I seen for this kind.

    I'm also looking at:
    - RLD Design canopy, 165 lbs weight with a dynamic load rating of 700 lbs
    - AluCab Explorer Canopy, about 125 lbs in weight with dynamic rood load rating of 440 lbs, Static rood load 900 lbs

Thanks to everyone that replied to this with idea... But after buying a tacoma, bed bars and an RTT..heading to Colorado and camping out there for 5 days i finally found the set up that works best for us.... A transit high roof conversion. While the tacoma was nice, and the tent was awesome for us and the need to haul dirtbikes, moutain bikes, and trials bikes to competitions as well as camping the transit will work better for us. Too bad it took a 33k dollar tacoma, 700 dollar tent, and 300 dollar bed bars to figure that out... let the cargo conversion begin...yall have a good one, it was fun owning a 6mt tacoma for 6 months at least....70878542_381435382550052_2149119704122261504_n (1).jpg 71350886_424719598184334_8073635546850656256_n.jpg 71593854_427217067930295_4687687590738919424_n.jpg
