    Looking for Tacoma or Tundra
    Hello,
First posting here. I am considering a 1st generation Toyota Tacoma. I am wondering about the 02 censors and Catalytic converter. How often do you have to replace them? They seem to be a bit problematic on both the Tacoma and Tundra.
Also, does anyone have opinions about the life span of the automatic transmissions vs. Manual.

    Thanks
    DougR

Not sure what you mean by Problematic I guess that depends where you live .

My Cats and sensors are at about 125,000 miles since I redid them when i bought the truck

Automatic or manual is a personal choice depends what you like.

Pretty much Comes down to Changing the clutch or change the fluid I hear.

Depends on how your planning to use the truck as well

Never learning to drive a Automatic I know very little about them

O2 Sensors can go hundreds of thousands of miles before an issue crops up. Catalytic converters the same. It all comes down to how you drive the truck. If you are at WOT all the time up the hill then things change.

As an additional bit of info, there are 2 basic differences between 1st generation pickups. The basic truck is a 5 wheel lug 2.4 motor and the other is a 6 lug either 2.7 4 cyl or 3.4 v6. MPG differences are different big time between the 2 with the 2.4 cyl getting 25-ish with conservative driving and the 3.4 getting 12 to 18 mpg, again, depending on who is driving and if it is manual, auto or 4X4.

The "problematic" reference is justified if you dont take into context the hundreds of thousands of Tacomas that are out there and the problems reported here... no one posts here that my truck is running perfectly or no problems found for decades of driving.
