Every since I got the ban hammer for my little oversight in the meme thread, it seems like I've been more interested in the Banned Members Memorial Thread; It's almost as if I get a sadistic pleasure from watching other people get banned! Is this normal?!?!

I miss my air-conditioner filmin' days...

Dual 1968 York Champions, from during the Borg-Warner era!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPQxI4A4kYs

These two beasts were at a house owned by a woman who paid me to walk her dog; The house was built in 1968 and the woman bought it in 1984. The house was essentially a time warp and a lot of original stuff, including both air-conditioners and a GE wall oven. One of the air-conditioners seen in this video finally died in 2013 or so; I have no idea if the other one is still there, but I was always friendly with the people so I'll have to go back and see if it's still there. This video was made probably a month and a half after I got my driver's license, and the Tacoma makes an appearance. Frito, the dog I walked, makes an appearance as well; Sadly, he died in like 2014 or 2015?

I can also be heard talking about problems I had with the shitty factory stereo in my truck (this video was made in 2011), which got replaced with another factory stereo under warranty. I had the entire stereo replaced with a superior aftermarket one in March 2013 after the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired.

My personal favorite, and the oldest air-conditioner I've ever filmed! Located in the same neighborhood as the '68 Yorks!

A 1964 Trane 2-ton A/C, installed when the house was built!

What is the deal?!?! All you’ve gotta do is pull into any parking lot in America to see how much society has crumbled!

Today, I stopped at Wawa to put air in the tires of one of the company minivans. I waited patiently for this lady to finish putting air in the tires of her Ford Escape, and then I started to pull in. All of a sudden this jerk in a black BMW pulls out of a parking space and says he was waiting. He was bigger (and obviously dumber) than me, so I backed out and then pulled back around, but not before telling him to relax. He took this way too personally and started gesturing at me. I rolled up my windows, locked the doors, and made it clear that I would be ignoring him. He put air in his tires and left, and I backed the Pacifica into the space next to the air hose. By the way, either Wawa needs to fix its air station or the TPMS sensors in the van are screwed up, because I left with the display showing less air in the tires than I’d arrived with.

You’ve pretty much got to make up your own rules to survive on the roads and in the parking lots of Warminster and Warrington!

I have a 2010 RC 5-lug, which has been in my family since new (September 2009) and owned by me since December 2016, with a little under 107K on the clock.

In 2011 or 2012, the blower motor/heater box started making this dull but annoying clicking noise. It came and went, and in either 2011 or 2012 (I can't remember) I brought it to the dealer. The dealer (Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pennsylvania) replaced the entire box under warranty and I got the truck back within hours since they had the part in stock. The truck was purchased on September 30th, 2009, which means that the bumper-to-bumper warranty expired on September 30th, 2012. I got my driver's license in May 2011, and I know the blower was replaced after I got my license. Recently, the blower motor has started making a similar noise that comes and goes. Unlike the last time, when it only made the noise when the heat was on, it seems to make the noise regardless of whether the A/C and heat are on. Most of the time, I have the radio loud enough that I do really hear or notice the noise, but it still bugs me.

I do not feel comfortable replacing the heater box myself, and I sure don't want to pay the stealership for the labor. I actually don't know if they replaced the whole heater box or just one part but it was (A) done for free, and (B) the noise disappeared for about eight years, so I didn't complain.

I am aware of a wrecked 2010 RC 5-lug in a junkyard that has the heater box intact, but the interior has been exposed to the elements for like four years and I'm not sure it would be healthy to install that heater box in my truck.

My plan would be to get a discounted OEM box or pull one from a wrecked truck and then have my independent mechanic install it.

Has anybody had this problem with their truck? Does anybody know what a good price on a heater box would be?

NOTE: The heater in my truck works GREAT and has never actually broken down or given me problems. The A/C has never completely failed, but there was a period of time in 2017-2018 where the evaporator core developed a leak. The A/C would only blow cold on the driver's side, and I ended up replacing the evap core at a cost of $1,600. It's been over a year and the A/C works better than it has since probably 2014-2015. The evap core was replaced in September 2018, and the A/C still blows cold across all four vents. The I realize the blower motor and evap core are two totally different parts.

The thing that blows the air through the vents? It has a little turbine/squirrel cage wheel in it, and is located right below where the cabin filter goes in.

It's the blower fan it, clicks or makes a little chirp sound. I can barely hear my fan over my squeaking bushings and uniballs, and my exhaust that I swear will make me deaf by the time im 37. The whole assembly can be removed it's only a few bolts if I remember right under the glove box. My advice is turn up the tunes and don't worry about it unless it stops working

its like a ten minute job, three screws or something like that and done. Probably just got some leaves or pine needles in there. Check your cabin air filter for debris as well.

edit: your new avatar photo threw me off, didn't realize it was good ole pennsilver lol glad to see ya bud

Here's a 5 minute video on how to do it. It's easy enough that you can remove it and see if you can identify what is making the noise. If you find debris remove it. If you remove debris and change out the cabin air filter and it's still making the noise then you can replace it for $40 with a new blower assembly off of rockauto (use the coupon code on their vendor page).

On another note, I went to BJ's to fill up the company van (or so I thought) since my dad is a member and gave me his BJ's card. I wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden I saw a bill of like $30.12 on the gas pump with a note saying to see the cashier. I'd been chatting with the guy at the next pump and assumed the van was full. A 2017 Chrysler Pacifica has a digital "graph bar" fuel gauge that can be difficult to read in the sunlight. I misread it and drove off. This morning, my one supervisor who most often drives that van called me into his office and said that the van didn't have much gas and he'd had to fill it up (at a cost of over $48). I am not in trouble, but I will be going to Wawa from now on; One thing I've learned about that particular BJ's over the last two years is that the place is more trouble than it's worth.

    • That particular BJ's hires incompetent morons to work at its tire center, and their minimum wage tire jockey did about $400 in damage to my truck.
    • Instead of fixing the problem at its source, photography is prohibited inside the tire center so evidence of employee incompetence doesn't go public.
    • The parking lot is an absolute zoo.
    • This gas station is the only one I've seen, like EVER, that requires everyone to drive in one way, which can be rather obnoxious if your gas filler door is located on one side and none of those pumps are available.
    • It is easier to board a domestic flight than it is to get out of BJ's with your paid order.

So my truck was squeaking like an SOB when I hit the brakes. I just had the front brakes (pads and rotors) replaced about 2,500 miles ago. Rear brakes (shoes and linings) replaced 22,000 miles ago).

I brought it to the dealer that inspects my truck and expected something needed to be oiled.

Turns out the rear axle seals blew fairly recently and pretty much destroyed my rear brakes.

My independent mechanic would have done the work for $770, but he’s booked until Tuesday. My parents are in California until Wednesday, and I do have my dad’s 2018 GMC Yukon to drive, but it’s bigger than I’m used to.

This is literally the worst possible weekend for my truck to sit inop in my driveway, so I’m paying about $200 more for it to be done at the dealer and be finished today.

I would top off the rear axle gear oil and drive it till it was splattering the windshield of the car behind me, before I would pay the dealer to work on my truck.

Rear axle seal isn’t hard to replace, the drums are a major pain tho.
