I forget what the thread pitch is, it'll accommodate others(filters) - all you have to ensure is that the mating surface is within the outer circumference of the filter's housing. Per cross reference, the Mobil One filter
M1102A is a direct replacement of my former Taco PH3614 FRAM.

Added the Baxter adaptor, very nice. Sure makes oil changes easier than dealing with that housing. I was able to get the housing off with a small oil filter wrench. I was going to use a slightly larger filter but the clearance seems better with the 102A. I may try a larger filter as I like to run a 1qt size.

The mobile 1 filters do seem high quality due to weight and the construction but for $11 at walmart kind of pricey. Walmart use to carry Purolator which seemed of the same construction for $3 and I stocked up on them. Now WM doesnt carry those as they want to sell their brand super tech.

Great investment the Baxter adaptor, not sure why Toyota goes with the cartridge.

The same 5VZFE filter (for my 1997 Taco) works with the Baxter adapter, totally happy about that...

The interesting thing is that around 2015 Toyota started switching back to the older style filters again.

I don’t personally care one way or another, though it does seem wasteful to be tossing metal in the bin all the time.

It's kind of a mix now on some engines. My wife's '14 Prius had the 2ZR 1.8 with a cartridge. But her '19 Corolla, with the same engine, has a spin-on.

Yeah Toyota switched the ZR back to the spin-on in 2015’ish, and most new engine designs released after that point have used spin-on as well (A25A, M20A, V35A, etc.).

There are still a lot of engines that use the canister style, but they're mostly older designs (mid-2000's to mid-2010's release).

Also interesting is that occasionally they will use the same engine with differing oil filter types. For instance the ZR used spin-on filters from day one in some countries and while the V35A uses a spin-on filter in North America, Japan and some other countries, in Europe it uses a canister style filter.

I ordered this kit off eBay, came in the Toyota branded OEM box. Packed inside were the aluminum housing, element, O-rings, and drain plug adapter, just need to pull the drain plug from the plastic one when the time comes. I think it's a good deal for the price of the components.

I don't mind the cartridge filter, I just wish they'd put it in a better location. My F250 cartridge filter was was on top of the engine and made the changes super easy.

Wow what a pain in the ass I think I will stick to my 4.0 engine with the top load filter, just remove filter on top of engine and wipe a few drops of oil the guard didn't catch and replace and your done. plus the 4.0 has more horsepower. Why can't Toyota make things easier to work on ?

The 4.0 has Less Horsepower than the 3.5 and it's not hard to change the filter.

I just recently replaced my plastic housing with an aluminum one (OEM part #15620-31060) and I noticed some a very small amount of oil weeping out once the new housing was installed. I replaced the filter and all of the seals and coated the seals with oil prior to installing it. Has anyone else run into this issue or have any ideas on the how to fix it? Im thinking that worst case I'll just purchase and install another plastic housing.

I had this part installed on my 2017 Taco, no problems. Plan on buying another for my 2020 but both Amazon and ebay parts checker says no. Will continue to search for a replacement.

Their parts checkers are about as trustable as gas station sushi and so on. Often wrong. 2020 is the same.

    Thanks Pablo8. I didn't think a change had happened.

When I bought the same kit for my 2016 the Tacoma was not listed. I believe I bought one that listed Camry and it fit. Same one fit multiple vehicles. I just looked up the oem part number on a dealer site and it lists for 2016-2020. It is the same housing. Go to the following page and then click vehicle fitment. Shows Scion. Then click more vehicles. It shows 2016-2020 Tacoma V6.
