Best Exhaust for 3rd Gen

Anyone here have any suggestions for the best choice on exhaust for more power, better MPG and sound. Basically best exhaust for 3rd Gen. Thanks

Yap. Stock. Although @St.Germain i think has had a lot of work done to his

 

TRD pro exhaust.

 

I bought a MBRP 3” cat back in stainless steel and I love it. It has a decent deep throaty sound to it. There is a bit of drone to it though.

 

Two plus years. No issues. Nice throaty note. Sound not noticeable in the cab

 

same, love mine, sounds great at low rpms

 

yikes, I paid under $200 for my mbrp. $600 is too steep for me

 

Anything else is awful.

 

I drive a manual better when I can hear the engine work. I couldn’t stand how quiet the stock exhaust was. I went with MBRP and couldn’t be happier with it.

 

TRD pro exhaust has the best sound compared to others.

I really like my MBRP Dual Exit Exhaust.
I have resonator tips, and now I have sound deadening in my cab, so drone is no more.

 

I have the trd pro and it sounds decent

 

There is no "bolt on" aftermarket cat back system that can deliver all you are asking. The TRD Pro is probably the best option unless you want to go all out AND accept that a certain amount of exhaust drone/unwanted noise is unavoidable. Sound is all subjective,what I find reasonable,others may find unbearable.

@St.Germain and myself have both done considerable mods to our exhaust. I feel I have reached the pinnacle of what can be done without a team of engineers and customized parts in regards to performance,sound and MPG's.

For performance,removing the restriction of the factory cats by installing OVTune catless dump tubes and the URD cat delete Y pipe improved flow and top end power but sacrificed low end power AND increased drone/noise. I have the flowmaster 50 2 1/2" inlet 2 1/4" dual outlet on mine but any bolt on catback at this point is up to you.

I had to put in an 18" 2 1/2" spiral louvered glasspac to optimize positive flow and to restore low end torque/power and a vibrant ultra quiet 2 1/2" resonator to manage the increased drone. I am quite happy with my system now and it is quite tolerable at highway cruising speeds but still gets a bit of low frequency (bass) drone under certain load conditions.

As far as MPG's I saw my best this past weekend with 18 mpg's with 170 miles mix of highway,city and 4x4 high at slow speeds slogging through mud

 

I say stock, but if you really want good noise; the best I heard is just having a flowmaster super44 muffler welded in.

 

I recently had a

$142 borla 40665 proxs universal muffler 2.5" offet inlet / 2.5" center outlet 4" x 9.5" oval x 19" long body 24" overall length un-notched necks reversible design T-304 stainless steel universal

borla 40665 welded in and kinda regret it. Leave it stock imho.

 

This is the system I have on mine downstream from all the other mods. Sounds very nice itself before additional mods. Again sound is all personal preference and I have yet to hear a internet sound clip that is true to real life. YMMV

OP, i would be super clear with your priorities so you can get what you want. like M1AWolf alluded to it will be a significant amount of work, expense, and likely trial & error to get the "more power" and "better MPG" part. the folks who are getting actual and obvious improvement are tearing out all the stock and working a solution up from scratch. it's not at all true that you can't get gains, but it will be a big project to do it, not a bolt on or off the shelf kind of system.

if you're serious about the power thing then start asking good q's about it. otherwise you can bolt on anything you like and get the sound nicer, done & done... but no significant power or throttle response improvement.

i am on version #2 with my custom exhaust work, 2 years of effort & play. i have learned enough to know how i'm going to do version #3, which will be tearing literally every piece out and starting over with a custom tuned equal length Y pipe on OVT, high flow 200CEL cat dump tubes up front, no rear cats, and i'll be taking the 3" midpipe down to 2.5, changing out the resonators and adding a new muffler, but not sure which muffler yet. always media-less (no rock wool, steel wool, ceramic block, etc) and open flow front to back.
