Hello all. I have a 2016 TRD 4x4 OR and am planning on replacing the rear brake lines with extended ones.

do I need to plan on bleeding all 4 corners? Or just to rear? Anything else I should know?

    thanks!!

Depends on how much fluid you loose during the change. If you can keep fluid in the reservoir, the fronts will be fine.

It’s generally a good idea to bleed any hydraulic system completely when it’s been opened. That includes brakes.

When I installed extended lines on the rear I bled the rears only. I've had no issues. Went through more brake fluid than I would have expected though.

Bleeding an ABS system is a bit more complicated than the 'ole lady do the "pump & hold", isn't it..??

There is a specific route you take to do the bleeders.... I'm not sure cuz I have not done one yet. :fingerscrossed:

not sure, I know with the OR’s booster it makes bleeding “easier” as there is no pumping involved. But if air gets all up in the system I’d be at a loss lol.

Even if u left the line off for a while, wouldn't it just gravity bleed? Only thing getting air would be that caliper at the point.

There is always a chance that you could get some air in the open lines. But I doubt that the air would progress through the system to different parts unless you loose quite a bit of fluid.

Am I wrong or have some guys had to reset something in techstream after a bleed?

Yeah I'm the same way though. I have the shit laid out so it's a quick swap. I hate making a mess.

That’s not true at all, once you let air into the system it will go directly to the highest spot it can, usually the master.

To the OP, what’s that old saying, if a jobs worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Yes you can get by without doing the front under most circumstances, but if you know how to bleed brakes, what have you go to loose by doing the front? You’ve only got gains. If you did introduce air, you know it’s all gone, All fluid flushed and ready at the same time for the next service, and system is at full breaking potential.

the bleeding an ABS brake system is no different than without. I had a homemade power bleeder break and send air through the abs system. Fixing it was just like bleeding the brakes. Force fluid through farthest line and work your way towards the master cylinder.

those systems dont come with fluid already in them, they do it at the assembly line with the same tools we can buy.

Well got the rear lines changed out and all four corners bled. Had the rear lines off for probably an hour and still had 0 air come out of the front brakes during bleeding. Super simple though so no biggie, and the peace of mind is nice. Also, I made quite the mess lol.
