Welcome, great looking truck! Is that a 3M wrap by chance?

 

Bassackwards no I don’t have a wrap on my pickup, I took the photo under an old orange HPS parking lot light. Its red, just looks orange. I’ll take a daylight photo and post it soon.

 

What lift and tires do you have?

You have to take out the black boxes or do any other mods to fit those wheels? I want to run a similar setup on my 5 lug.

 

Removing the black boxes takes 2 minutes a side. Take them out anyways.

 

Yes I did. Also running a 3mm wheel spacer up front to clear the brake caliper. If you take your time you can remove the black boxes and trim the liners with a box knife, use a heat gun to re-shape them flat and use an old bolt hole there to form a factory look. I did order a 4x4 fender liner to see if it will fit. Should be here on Friday. Going for a true factory look. BTW I have 235 75 15 tires

 

get paid tomorrow and about to pull the trigger on these as I'm starting to work on suspension and lift. Heard good things about KYB, anyone have experience? I'm pretty sure my PO never changed the original shocks and I'm at 114k miles on the truck. Has a lot of body roll and bobbing on freeway speeds and want to tighten things up.

 

Should be a decent set. I've got KYB on my 4Runner. Not soft but not as stiff as Bilstein.

This thing still rides super squishy like a car and I'm hoping the shocks will be the first step in the right direction. I plan to do v6 coils with the spacer up front to get started on the truck after these. I do go camping/outdooring and bog the bed down often so the stiff front end is what I want. (Drove a late 90's v8 Ram with a coil spacers in the front prior so that's the ride quality i enjoy for reference lols)

 

I just ordered KYB Excel-G's. I'm also bouncing about and feeling all the cracks in the road.

 

Just an update on the 4x4 Tacoma front fender liners. I got it installed today and it fit perfectly. Gives you that factory look when you remove the black boxes. I bought mine on eBay for $17 a side. (Aftermarket brand)

you will also want to buy 20 or so Toyota fender liner push pins. I was only successful getting a handful out without destroying them. I wasn’t very patient, I suppose if your really careful and take your time, you count potentially save most of them. I ordered them from my Toyota dealer.

my rears were shot and fronts weren't far from it and I did KYB all around. Much better ride, but still not 'soft' like a car. You may need an angle grinders or dremel tool to get the front shocks removed at the top. The bolt sheared off on both sides so I just had to cut them out.

 

Glad to hear the KYB seem to be a good choice and they helped your ride quality. Happy to hear it's not soft either, looking to go the opposite and stiffen my ride a bit. Granted will be adding a spacer and v6 coils this Christmas so a lot will play into factor with my case. Thanks for the information

 

I didn't have a problem with the tops. The lower bolts on the driver side was a PITA. Both bolts sheared off and I had to weld on nuts to get them off. Besides that it was an easy install and the ride was a vast improvement. I actually still had a Toyota Tokico shock still on the passenger side.
