Fairly new to the Anchorage area, and I need some great camping spots! The wifey and I prefer more remote areas (no campgrounds) around small lakes, rivers or anything with a great view. I'm sporting a mostly stock '18 TRD Off-Road and would prefer to stick to mild-moderate trails. Any tips on sweet spots would be greatly appreciated!! 20181205_093651.jpg

No I haven’t yet. That’s down towards anchorage area. I hear it’s an amazing place and there are locals that do runs out there all the time. If I remember right the rudy lake trail can get pretty nasty

Yeah its just an hour outside of Anchorage. It is typically a pretty easy trail, not sure I'd ever call it pretty nasty except for mid breakup.

In fact I went there a couple weeks ago, granted we didn't make it very far but here's the video.

Whiskey Gulch outside Homer is a pretty fantastic primitive spot, right on the beach.

Well, it's within a days drive. For me, that's pretty close.

I will second the comment on the Denali Highway though, some pretty cool spots if you can get there when it's not busy. And it's close to Denali.

Officially it is not allowed as the trail to Ruby Lake is an easement that is 50' wide I think. (I write the trailsoffroad trails for Alaska FYI.)

Sorry not sure how I missed this... That Tacoma is on 33" duratracs. The engine blew up and is now parked waiting for some love.

I don’t think camping is aloud there. The Facebook page Jeep n’ Alaska does quite a few runs up there but doesn’t seem like anyone ever camps
