(2000 2.7L 4x4 M/T) Howdy howdy. I was wondering if anyone has ever encountered a VERY noticeable clunking while in reverse with even the slightest load on the truck? It sounds like the damn engine is bouncing off the inner wheel well on the passenger side. Ive already replaced the motor mounts, transmission mount (although I think I weakened it because I did it well before the motor mounts), UCA's, inner/outer tie rods. I did start to notice it after I installed an LCE header, but I think that is just coincidence? If I have my little 5x10 trailer hooked up, the truck struggles very very hard in reverse, accompanied by that clunking. Also replaced the clutch, flywheel, throwout bearings, all the things in there about 30k ago. Anyone have any insight?

    Thanks in advance!

What would cause the T/C to make that noise?
And it seems to be more on the passenger side than anywhere else...
If I didnt know any better, I would say its the header I put on, and I replaced the motor mounts to try to troubleshoot the noise, and it was really really due time...

The transfer case would have to have a bearing out that would allow the drive chain to bunch up when going in a direction or gear range it didn't like. You could drop it in 4x4 and see if everything still sounds good that is actually where you will notice the transfer case problems most of the time. But I'm just guessing my first thought was a motor mount.

    4x4?
I'm not certain if I've tried revers in 4x4, but I haven't noticed anything while moving forward in 4x4...

Good question.. I replaced on or two of the U joints less than 20k ago (on the main shaft). And since you mention it, I did put about a 2.5" lift on it with an aal, airbags (just to haul my construction trailer), and front leveling blocks. I dont remember exactly what I was concerned with after the install, but I remember getting some feedback about axle wrap.... As it sits right now though, I am not experiencing any issues related to it, that I know of. At least as Im driving forward.

Nah. Im sure I have one somewhere in there. Plus my cat just shit out. But this is way too loud, and way to physical to be an exhaust leak..

I'd inspect the u joints well and grease the splines/slip yoke very well to start

I replaced the U joints because I felt like I was getting play in the driveshaft (and like everything else on the truck I havent replaced since I bought it off a buddy, it was time). The play ended up being in the splines themselves though. I posted a video some time ago, questioning the amount of play, and if I recall right, nobody seemed to see any excessive movement.

No squeal. throwout bearing was replaced with the clutch. And, even if so, only in reverse?

I had a clunking noise when I backed up. I tightened the u-bolts on the rear springs and it went away. I know it's far from the passenger bay, but...

Too simple not to try!! And you just jogged my memory that it also feels like theres something dragging. Almost like hardcore rubbing from the tire on the wheel well, but I know thats not it, and it definitely feels more drivetrain related....
