I shot this cover photo for a photogtaphy mag 6 or so years ago of a pit named Jake at the adoption center I used to volunteer with. Dude had a permanent smile and was the happiest dog Ive ever met despite having a pretty awful previous owner

    rcleveland_jake_1500.jpg

He got adopted pretty quick though which was good

I wholeheartedly disagree about not getting one from a shelter, I worked with a ton of them in shelters that were great dogs. I know people have their strong opinions on it so I'm not gonna go on a rant or anything but you do have to be smart about getting any dog from a shelter no matter what the breed.

There are far more loving ones in shelters than helpless ones, I personally would never consider buying a dog from a breeder when there are so many getting put down every day simply because shelters don't have the room

Jacquee, the pit in my pics, was a rescue from a kill shelter in Indiana.

I drove from Chi-town to Indiana from time to time cause I had friends that lived there; one day we decided to check out the shelter and it damn near broke my heart that I couldn't take them all home.

Jacquee, overall, was the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever had the chance of having as a pet.

Even talking about her would get me a little teary-eyed right now.

The pit mix is a great dog, don't get me wrong. It's our daughter's dog. We have him now because of her current living arrangements.

Jasper (the husky) is MY dog.

Just tell your daughter you let me "borrow" her dog and I just forgot to give it back

Still helping me with my 4x4 swap? I figured I'll have room for it by then :anonymous:

Thats great for you. But the overwhelming majority of stories I read about pits mauling people are the ones from shelters that just snapped one day. Its enough to keep me from owning one, and to be leery anytime Im around one.
