Just did a swap on my 99 Xtracab SR5. last week.. Got a Killer deal from the major JDM importer in Arlington TX. $1200 delivered 3mo. warranty 55k on the COMPLETE engine (MAF down to Ex. manifolds). My old gal started to get a wristpin tap @235k and local yards are out of their fukin' minds.... $800-$1200 bucks for 250k+ engines:rofl:

So I did what most do on used engines, visual pre-inspection, drop the pan, new T-belt and water pump, etc... Well all was smooth until start-up and it was trying to blow the k&n off the MAF!!! Multiple codes flew and a $hit-ton of new OEM parts went on order. Long-story-short, Couple bad injectors, sticky IAC, and a worn TB/TPS. Moral of the story is...... no matter what these "JDM" importers tell you for mileage, Half the accompanying sensors and electronics are junk from these idiots pressure washing them unprotected and then they get pallet'ed wet and put up on a shelf for potentially years until it gets sold (to me) in this case.

Anyway, while I'm waiting for the OEM goodies to show up I decided to give my bud the old Intake and valve covers to get Powder-C'ed KTM orange:bikewheelie2: to match my TRD accents since they have to come back off to re-do the fuel system and just thought I'd share the jewelry pics with yall....

    Enjoy your Taco Tuesday peeps!

Nice job. Looks like another 3.4L owner suffered the "wrist pin" tap. I had to replace the original engine with 228,000 miles last summer to get rid of the tap.

I found a LKQ engine from a 1998 4Runner with 70,000 miles that had been wrecked a couple of months earlier. I have pictures of the donor car, the speedometer, the CarFax that squares with the mileage. Note, the cost was like 2x compared to a JDM. Since the engine was 21 years old, I refreshed most everything rubber during the swap.
