    Hello TW folks,
I need some help. I just did the navigation bypass, just cutting the speed wire in back of the headunit. Now I want to add a switch, I have the CH4x4 switch. I understand that the green and red1 wire will go to the ends of the wire that was cut. If I wire the red2 and black to a Ill- and Ill+ will this just light up the lettering on the switch? Trying to get the symbol and lettering to light up when pushed and just the lettering when not engaged. Is this possible? there is no power running through the green and red1 wire, it just reconnects the signal. Hope this makes since. Thanks

I’ve yet been able to find the internal circuit details of the ch4x4 switches, but from their bad description of wiring, I don’t believe you can do what you want. It seems if you want the light to come on with the switch pressed you need to run power through the actual switch contacts. Obviously that means you’d be running power into the headunit speed sensor which would be bad. You could use a relay to do what you want, but that seems overly complicated. Run the power from the switch through the relay coil, and the speed sensor through the contacts of the relay.

According to CH4x4, the switch should already do this depending on the style you purchased.
