Yeah. I wish I had gotten a picture of all of us laying down. All I got is one of us playing uno. Kind of a bad frame of reference, but I’m in the corner. The bag is way past my wife in the other corner.

ROAM V4 Vagabond on Relentless Fab low bed bars

Bars are sweet, I'm super impressed with them. Tent drops in behind the cab on them real nice and I can actually get it up on the bars and back off by myself the way they are angled.

Tent is okay... I neither like it nor hate it, it simply is. Seems decently made, some nice features, roomy, comfortable... but... I feel like it's overkill for the task at hand. I am gonna sleep in it tonight and play around with it some tomorrow and open and close it a bunch to get a feel for how fast it would actually be on a trip. Major issue at this time is that my wife apparently is not strong enough to lift it over her head and get it situated on the roof of the 4Runner so I'm not sure how I'm going to sort that issue out, although that won't be a problem on the Taco. Minor issues so far are no instructions came with the tent and the online instructions are shit, and it is missing some stakes.

For reference we camp out of the back of a truck a lot, we have probably a few hundred nights in the back of a 4Runner and just wrapped up a 20 day trip to Alaska where we slept in the back every night. She wanted a RTT because she was getting tired moving gear back to front every night and setting up an air mattress. I kind of wanted one because I like to tinker around with shit, but I'm kind of meh about it now that I actually have it.

    Anyway... pics:

My free spirit tent came with no instructions and in fact it was partially disassembled so I had to figure that out. I put a hoist in my garage to get it on and off my racks. Still takes a bit of time to get it on so for one night trips I sleep in the truck bed. For longer trips, it is just GREAT. Very comfortable.

Anyone run surfboards on their roof racks, while having a rtt over the bed??

Was looking at a low or 8/10” voodoo rack but been struggling to find a reference picture. I guess the inconvenience is you putting the board under your truck when your camping but I’d like to fit 2 longboards with a rtt

A couple pages back there were a few posts about adding 3rd brake lights for the RTT - it got me to install one too, and I wanted to share my setup:

I had some leftover square aluminium tubing that I cut to length of the RTT rails. Screwed on T-nuts to slide/mount onto the rails.

Purchased a trailer light and 4-pin connector from Amazon, soldered the two together, and mounted to the bar. Don't have a video, but the turn signals are a sequential flash, similar to the new Audi's.

I've always wanted to do that with one of the Baja Designs RTL, but $$$.

Has anyone found or engineered a set of sheets to fit a RTT mattress? The Mt. Shasta CVT RTT has a 56"w x 96"l sleeping area, which is basically a longer Full/Queen size mattress which measures 60" x 80". Google searches show that even a king size flat sheet isn't long enough to stretch the full length of the mattress.

My brain is trying to engineer a way to put a memory foam topper on top of the CVT mattress, then cover with a fitted sheet, but other than an expensive custom made sheet set, I'm not having any luck.

Also thought about just using a regular king-size sheet & locking it in with sheet holders.

Have you guys come up with anything creative, or how are you using a mattress topper in your RTT?

My smittybilt XL is longer than a King, closer to a cali king, but its as wide as a king which is wider than a cali king. So cali king sheets wont fit. A king sheet will wrap around it but it pulls up the corners on one side. What I did was get one of the 1" egg crate foam toppers on Amazon in a King size then bought a king size fitted sheet and I just put the fitted sheet on the mattress topper.

1" isn't enough to mess up the fold-ability of the tent but it also keeps the fitted sheet from sliding all around while I sleep. Custom sheets were going to be too expensive for the pinch I was in to have something fast.

Gotcha, not a bad idea to just put the fitted sheet on the mattress topper. That may be the solution. We have a small pup that sleeps with us so just wanted to have something that'll keep the dirt off of the mattress and be easily cleanable.

what about getting a non fitted sheet, and using kids suspenders to prevent it from sliding off? I thought of that, but have not executed anything
