I've replaced my clock spring twice now and I'm hoping someone can point me towards a better replacement.

In Feb 2017 I replaced it with what should have been an OEM one (could have been a fake without me knowing but I paid a premium on ebay and gave it an extremely detailed look over and everything looked good). It lasted about 2 years before it started having issues (airbag light). Given it didn't last long I tried one of the knock off ones and replaced that in June 2019. It's already started having issues (no cruise control).

Anyone have some recommendations on one that will last longer?

So the one that came originally on your 08, went bad in 2010? If the first time you changed it was 2017 that’s 9 years.

It can't be determined as I'm not the original owner.

Some stories out there about Ebay and Amazon selling re-branded Chinese crap as OEM Toyota, but I can't substantiate those stories.

I bought a cheap spiral cable off Amazon for my wife's 2006 as I had read good reviews on it. It lasted maybe 2 years. Just replaced it with an OEM Toyota one from a reputable online parts dealer. I've realized with just about everything else that it's worth it to just cry once and buy Toyota parts.

I was thinking that Toya had consistent issues with the clock spring, hence the recall. Then when my "Toyota" that I bought went out, that seemed to validate that assumption. Maybe that's not true then....?

Unfortunately I did buy it on eBay, but I paid a premium knowing there a lot of fakes. Close to $200. I checked the seller, and the pictures over closely, and everything checked out. So either I got a lemon, or maybe it was a very well disguised fake.
